[Vote] Pictures of yourself in avatars & signatures

This poll is based on feedback from this (http://www.habboxforum.com/showthread.php?t=777558&p=7901766#post7901766)thread and we now want to know whether you would like images of yourselves to be allowed in your avatars and signatures. This is the current rule regarding images of yourself on the forum:


A5. Do not post private details or information ~ We do not allow you to post private information about yourself due to security concerns. Disclosing any information about another forum user without their consent is also not allowed. This includes:
Private messages
Forum ban reasons/dismissal reasons
Reputation comments
Private conversations (MSN, Habbo, etc.)
Images / videos of the user or links to a page where an image/video of another user is located (this includes social networking sites, facebook, myspace etc)
Trying to organize real life meet-ups
It is also not allowed to give out the personal details (specific address, phone number etc) of anyone, forum user or otherwise.

You are, however, allowed to post pictures of yourself and use them as your profile picture, although they are not allowed in your avatar or signature. You may also share your email address and social networking profiles on the forum.


The part in bold is what we are looking to possibly change. Please submit your feedback by voting in the poll and feel free to post your reasons as a reply. The poll will remain open for one week and will close on the 21st May at 9PM.

I don't think the questions are phrased correctly because I, myself, wouldn't have a photo of me in my profile however I wouldn't be against other people having their photos in their profile.

Changed the poll options slightly. Votes are hidden so that people don't just vote for whatever seems the most popular.

I dont think you should be able to steal a picture of somebody else and use that but a picture of yourself, sure.

I voted no as I like being different from the other fansites and it looks appalling when they have themselves on there, mainly due to no size restrictions, but it's not like they could fit a full picture in our avatar sizes so I don't mind either way.

I think more could be done as opposed to changing a rule slightly, also I agree with Adam about the answers, you could just have 'Should we allow pictures of members in their avatar or signature' yes, no, not fussed :P. However, I don't mind the outcome much.

There's a difference though, if someone posts in PAPOY then guests can't view it, if someone has it on their profile, again guests can't view it (I think), whereas if it was on an avatar or a signature then they could.

then it is down to the person to decide. if they only want members to see then u post it in pyp if u dont care about guests seeing (which im sure would be the case if u were willing to post in pyp) then u make it ur avi if u r comfortable with that. im sure if there was a crazy stalker out to see every1 and do v bad things wtih ur images then they have probs already been through pyp and stored all of ur images for their use already

Plus you shouldn't have any images in your avatar that would be considered inappropriate anyway so I can't see that being a real issue.

Yeah I see what you mean. I guess it's just a case of making sure users know that it's their own responsibility if they make the decision to put themselves in their avatar :).

I voted no. Although it's most likely going to be changed I doubt a lot of people will actually put an image of themselves in their avatar. I don't mind either way though!

Wow discredit yourself hardly think it would blow up the forum Martin :( xx I there is no reason why users can't have them in their avatars however if anything was obviously to change it can be stated in forum rules that any leaks are at your own risk for uploading the picture at your own will.

i voted based on this reason that its different from other habbo fan sites but lets face it this place has become less habbo and more personal so whatever.. it's not going to affect my life, i like to be old fashioned but if its changed ill get over it lol generally prefer it to be an impersonal site rather than too personal but hey change can be good

also how are you going to decide this cause u could have say 40 yes 30 don't mind 20 no so it would really be 40 vs 20 and the other 30's wouldn't count? :S Plus a dont mind could really be a yes

The 3rd option shouldn't really exist. It's about as useful as having a poll on favourite cakes - Victoria sponge or chocolate fudge, and having a dodgy 3rd option saying "I prefer éclairs".

I voted that because I'm stupid, and because I wouldn't care if they were or were not :P Personally I'm for it as I see few issues, unless we have resident paedophiles about and the idea still stands that harmless pictures are honey to their eyes.

And the reason the papoy thread is hidden when you are logged out (the whole forum) and why you are only allowed to have it as your profile picture as non registered people can't see your profile :S

I imagine you'll disregard the members that have voted 'I don't mind either way' which would be fine if the other two options were the above. Just because I don't want to use my face as an avatar it doesn't mean that I would want to restrict other users from doing so. I think this will be reflected in the poll results, too. I imagine the majority with have voted 'I don't mind either way' but we'll see.

Here's an idea, if you're worried about people seeing pictures of you (who aren't on the site), just don't post them? :P Show them in private PMs or something to certain people if you ever get that fussed haha.

Just for reference, I think the reason for this was based on sierk having a very strong opinion on this. As the years went on people realized that having faces plastered all over the place would incite bullying and generally be not that pleasant, and they didn't want it enough to overcome the negatives. Just because nobody could seem to remember why. Certainly possible that opinions changed and I dunno that sierk cares anymore :P
