Originals vs Covers

So I watched the Glee episode 'feuds' the other day, & they sang the song 'How to be a Heartbreaker' by Marina & the diamonds, and at the time, I thought it was Brilliant.

Inkwell then got me listening to the Original (over and over and over).

I then went back to listen to the Glee cover again & i thought it was terrible in comparison.

Which do you prefer?

Originals are good and some covers are good

But some covers are just terrible

depends on the artist and how they choose to take on the original but imo covers are generally better when the artist changes the song slightly to suit their style

I think, in that case, the cover was pretty good and I enjoyed it a bit more. As a general rule, I prefer the original song but that's not always the case... e.g.:

I prefer Blondie's version of "The Tide Is High" instead of The Paragon's version.
I prefer Dusty Springfield's version of "The Windmills of Your Mind".
I prefer Nancy Sinatra's cover of "bang bang"

etc.

With Glee - some are good covers, but I largely prefer the original

some covers can be better than the original. Red; showed me this person and she sang titanium and it was brilliant and I thought it was better than the original.

But on the one you've posted the original is deffo better than the cover.

didn't santana cover an adele song? it's totally okay because santana is fierce and beautiful

usually i think the glee songs and their covers but i really liked their cover of lucky.

I've preferred originals in soo many cases except basically things lana or Adele have covered. Personally hate everything glee has done apart from like one or two songs, especially this song so much.

Being massive diamond I obv prefer the original to heartbreaker ha ha, really just feel they didn't do it justice at all.

On topic I think there are plenty of examples of covers that are as good as or better than the originals, and people might be surprised to find out just how many popular songs are covers of previously unknown tracks

Some covers can be good, you can't just say all covers are bad just because they are covers. The covers I tend to like, are usually people that take a song in a different direction to the original...

In general though, I find Glee's music really bad, and prefer the original in every case :P

I love Alex Goot's cover of things. He's probably the only guy I've seen who can make Guys and Girls songs work with his singing. & I prefer some of his covers to some Original songs. eg. Living on a Prayer. bkps will hate me for saying that though. :(

Some songs I love as covers: Leona Lewis' versions of Run and Hurt are gorgeous, Shaun Reynolds/Laura Pringle of Stay (what I can think of off the top of my head)

but for the most part I do prefer originals!
