Simple question, did you see or meet your great grandparents? or indeed, are they still alive?

I was lucky in that i've met both of my Great grandmothers who died when I was roughly around 12? both in the same year, one was 89 and the other was 92 by recollection. Just been looking through family photos and pretty sad how in a few years things can change so much with people passing, but I guess great grandparents are very aged. :P

So did you meet your great grandmother/s or even grandfather? you know, I never hear of people getting to meet their great grandads!

Thoughts?

No I was only lucky enough to know my Nanny who died in 2011 at the age of 84, although I do know my 'Granddad' is still alive, but I've never had anything to do with him nor do I intend to as of what he did to my Nanny, Mum and aunties/uncles.

I never knew my dad's parents either as they had died ages before too. I would have love to have known more of my grandparents or indeed great grandparents, but sadly don't.

On my mum's side I met both of them, one died in 2000 so I would've been err 8 when she died, the other died a few years before. Nicest people ever. As for the dad's side I have absolutely no idea.

Hm

I did meet them from my dads side as they are all really young *my dads parents are like, 55. he's 40 wth, how young?!?!* But they must have died when I was pretty young because I have no memories, just pictures of me with them

Yes I was lucky to meet great grandparents from my nan's side. My grandad's side - mother had passed away and his dad left him when he was a child (lovely curse in my family).

The living great grandad from my nan's side died a few years ago, but my great nan is still alive and going stong at like 87/88 or something.

Nope, don't even know they exist to be honest. Incredibly small and quiet family.

My great nan on my mums side is still alive and is 97 I believe. I never met my great grandad on my mums side though. He died quite a while before I was born.

Never met the greats on my dads side.

didnt meet any great grandparents and only met 1 of my 4 normal grandparents as well and she died when i was like younger than 2 lmao. prefer it that way though since i don't like family much anyway and saved me the pain of them ever dying on me for any (great) grandparents lmao

My great grandad died during ww2 and is buried in Italy. I am going out to see his grave in September with the rest of my extended family. My great granny is 90 and she has outlived all her children. She is still mobile and stuff for her age! and only ever met my granda on my dad's side.

great grandparents on my dad's side had died long before I was born but on my mum's side, they were both alive when I was born. my great granddad passed away a couple of years ago and my great nana is still alive and in her 80s. not looking forward to when she dies, its going to tear my mum apart.

No I wasn't I was only lucky the see 3 out of 4 of my grandparents

2 on my dads side (one died in 2011)
1 on my moms side (one died in 1985(so didn't see them)) The other that I did see died in 1999

So I've only got 1 grandparent left alive :(

I met 2/8 of my great grandparents, my father's mother's father, and my mother's father's mother. They both passed away this year, and I'm 20. They were both in their 90's.

I know all 4 of my grandparents, still alive.

I met my great grandmother on my Mums side but she died this year at 93. I was only young when I met my great grandfather on my mums side. I have never met my dads side though, they don't talk about it much either.

3, sort of. One died when I was around 1, the next died when I was 4 or 5 and then the final one died 2 years this summer. They were all around mid 90s which is quite impressive and weird that they were all on my dads side of the family.

I'm not too sure actually seen as I moved countries away from all my family before I really had a decent memory of who's who (yes i was 13 don't judge my memory) but I do know I met my Nan on my Mum's sides Mum who died a few years ago and I don't know her age it was the 90's though. I do have all my grandparents still though and speak to them on skype all the time.

I have never met any of my great grandparents as they all passed away before I was born. It's such a shame really because I bet they would have some pretty interesting stories to tell about their lives like my grandparents do!

Nope and seeing as my mum disowned her parents because they were bad people I don't know any on her side of the family so I basically grew up with 1 grandparent because my Granddad died when I was 3/4 so I don't remember him and as for my great grandparents I don't recall knowning them but my Great Aunt died 2 years ago and my Great Uncle is still alive! :) He sends me birthday cards :')

My great grandfather died even before my mother was born. Same as my great grandmother on my mum's side. SAme can be said for my dads side. So you could say no, i didn't meet any.
AS for my grandparents, the only grandparent thats still alive is my grandmother on my dads side, at age 90 this year. My grandfather on dads side died in 1974, alcohol contributed to his death since he was an alcoholic. My grandmother on my mums side died in 2002 and my grandfather died in 2011.

My great granny is 90. She has outlived both her children. At one point we had 5 generations of girls in ours which is pretty rare. I never met my great granda as he died in ww2. 11 of my family travelled over there to see his grave in September. We phoned my granny from the grave, was super emotional.

No I think my great grand parents died long ago.

I know my paternal great-grand father died when my grandfather was still very young, and my grandfather doesn't remember him I think. So that one is off the list.
My paternal-great grandmother died in the 1980s-1990s, so I've never met her. My paternal grandparents are still alive. They're in their early 80s now.

I have no idea about my maternal great-grand parents. But maternal grandparents died about 10 years ago, when they were 82 and 83 respectively so they were old.
