Hi
I'm looking at a few universities (e.g. Manchester, Reading) to hopefully study computer science in 1 year's time but I'm a bit stuck in narrowing down to 5.
I've literally been asking a load of people what they thought of different universities for computer science and they've given me honest feedback.
I was wondering if any of you had a particular recommendation for a university based on how well the course is taught, the place, campus, nightlife etc. etc.
Thanks in advance for any useful replies :D

I'm at the University of Leeds and the Computer Science dept is joined up with the physics department and its in one of the biggest buildings on campus. Honestly, I don't know anything about how it's taught etc but I can tell you about the other stuff.
Leeds uni is a campus uni right near the city centre so everything's close and you don't need to spend money on traveling places daily. The city is pretty good for shopping and just general stuff you'd expect. The nightlife is great, being a big northern city with 100k students there are club nights every day of the week and you can do it so cheaply.
I love it here and think you should definitely check it out :).

Thanks for that post
The only problem with Leeds is it's like 6+ hours away haha
Did you live in Leeds originally?

ah that sucks.
Nope I'm from Birmingham which is 2.5 hours away roughly, the furthest non-international students I've met up here are from about 5 hours away and live in the extreme south east.
I guess it depends on the cost of travelling/if you're willing to travel for that long/how often you're thinking of returning home.

Thats quite high tbf, most courses are AAB here. I'm sure you'll have an amazing time wherever you end up :). Check out Liverpool, I've heard good things about the city as a student :).

I go to Aberystwyth, it's pretty far away but really pretty. The CompSci department is meant to be ok from what I've heard from friends on the course, afraid I can't tell you much more though! It's quite underrated as a University, because of it's location. Also not hugely a massive nightlife spot...

I've driven through it and it seems quite pleasant. I'm guessing when it's term time the town is packed?

Oh my, is it that much? I only left Aber a few weeks ago, most of the students had gone and it looked so empty! Especially at night, so quiet, so little vomit......

Manchester is 16th, so a pretty decent choice :)
I studied Computer Science at Coventry University. It wasn't too difficult.. I don't know anything about the nightlife as I hate going out. I didn't stay there either.. It was ok. 2:1 with honours pretty easy if you ask me.

Judging by some of the reviews it seems decent. What Uni are you at?

Oh definitely, if you want a really community-feeling uni i'd definitely recommend Aber!
Whatever uni you choose, I wouldn't recommend just going off league tables, you might not be happy at the top university; it depends on the place as well. I know people who have only gone on league tables and are really unhappy. That's just advice I give to everyone though :p
no this is important and individual do it urself

I'm at Loughborough... I don't do computing, but some of my modules are very computer oriented, and the computer labs are very good in my opinion... But that's not much to base it on really :P And it's only 26th in the Comp Sci tables, so Manchester is probably a lot better :)
