I'm watching Casualty and the inmates have taken over a prison... if that happened irl, what would happen?
Sorry it's random Q lol, I'm just interested!

Same as any other hostile take-over. You send in the police in force and pray the inmates haven't found weaponry to hold security guards hostage. They can't escape and taking over a prison eliminates the problem of carting them off to somewhere to keep them out of harms away, so it will be easy to regain control.

Reminds me of the saying for the running of this country, that the lunatics have taken over the asylum.
I know a few years back there was a massive riot in a US prison or two which ended up as a siege - sure the army or something had to be brought in. As for if it happened here - well, we'd probably give in to their demands and if anything did happen we'd have soppy losers writing for the Guardian newspaper concerned about the 'Uman rights of the prisoners because their not being given the new Xbox or being served non-Halal meat.
Here's one of the worst US ones - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Mexico_State_Penitentiary_riot
just burn it to the ground with all the criminals inside

Always used to watch Casuality when I was younger, then I just stopped watching it. :( some good story lines! But like anything else, they'd either let it eventually burn itself out, or send in reinforcements being the police.

just burn it to the ground with all the criminals inside
Then you'd be imprisoned too, making you a criminal.
