Hai der
I'm looking for like an all-round laptop that does most things and isn't too expensive (say, nothing more than £500/£550).
Windows 7 is a must and apart from that I'm not too fussed. I just don't want something that's slow and runs like half a Fiat Panda.
Any help given will get a juicy +REP.
Thanks kiddos :D

Did you mean Windows 7? Just a genuine question, as I think most laptops are shipping Windows 8 preinstalled now?

Yeah :P Windows 8 is not something I'm that keen on. But if there's no new laptops with Windows 7 then it's a shame haha.

The new Argos catalogue is out this friday/saturday which means all discontinued lines will plummet (like a ****, I picked up a £250 bbq for £40) so it is definitely worth checking their clearance range when the new catalogue launches (but you have to get in there fast because we dont hold these lines too long after the catalogue launches)

Cheers. Is there a particular laptop you'd recommend? :P
Dell outlet sells nearly new Dells at reasonable prices. They're mostly faulty ones that were send back to Dell and fixed. You're more likely to find something suitable with Windows 7.

The stock is constantly changing, so there may be better stuff tomorrow, or maybe not.

The best you can afford! I wouldnt be able to tell you which are going discontinued for two reasons 1) If I did and somehow they found out, I'd be fired and sued and 2) I havn't seen the new catalogue :P. I can however reccomend that you take a look on PC world and read a quick guide to choosing the right PC/Laptop (I do believe they have a good one) If not if you go into an Argos store they should have that one nerdy guy that knows everything about computers you could possibly want to know

What're you planning on using the laptop for? Casually or for things like photo & video editing? You haven't given much info as to what you're planning on using it for. For your budget you're probably looking at these types of specs:
intel i5 processor (personally i'd go with intel rather than amd but thats personal preference)
4gb or more ram
500gb or more hard drive
for casual use them specs are fine and are well within your budget. take a look at amazon i really find the customer reviews always help me make my decisions too

I'm hopefully doing computer science at uni, so I won't need video editing capabilities really.
I've had a look on Amazon, but I can't seem to narrow my choices down aha!

Especially when they're around the same price and they've got good reviews. Such a tragic situation.

That would be very helpful, thanks! :)

Although, mine is i5 with 1TB hdd.

Depends on your uni.
If you're doing CompSci it might be worth getting a Mac so you can run all 3 OSs (Win/Mac/Nix) if that's what your Uni does, otherwise your bog standard Dell will do fine.
I'm not sure on models but I've always gone with the Toshiba make and they've never let me down. They'll probably be in the price range you're looking for too.
I used my Toshiba and my Macbook for university. Mac's are quite annoying because of compatibility. :(

This is the one I've been looking at, as I decided there's no point spending £900 or so on a Mac again: http://www.johnlewis.com/store/browse/productDetail.jsp?productId=588906&callingPage=%3FproductId%3D588906#default
But idk if that would be good for your video editing capabilities.
