Can anyone recommend any good tutorials, videos or books for beginners to learn html on a Mac?

I learnt a lot from YouTube - have a quick search around there!
Word of mouth is a good one, speak to anyone you know that knows too.
Admittedly, I don't know too too much myself but I know where to look when I do need help!

On a side note and perhaps a stupid question, is HTML even used much anymore? I thought most websites these days used more advanced programming...

Almost every webpage on the internet uses HTML, the only exceptions I wouldn't even classify as webpages.
Highly suggest Code Academy.
It's free and actually very good!
