View Full Version : Apple Media Event - 10th September 2013

Mr-Trainor

Apple has sent out media invitations for an event in a weeks time; next Tuesday.

http://i43.tinypic.com/2emmpag.jpg

'This should brighten everyone's day' is most likely related to the rumoured iPhone 5C and it's variety of colour choices. However, the iPhone 5S is also expected to be announced at this event.

---------- Post added 03-09-2013 at 05:27 PM ----------

Here's a summary of what's expected, based on rumours, in both phones:

Get the feeling that they may launch the new iPad at this event as well, and more then likely iOS 7 will launch.. maybe new iPods..

Hmm idk about iPads - if they release two new iPhones and then an iPad too, there's just too much to focus on. I think the iPad(s) would be a separate event next month, but new iPods is possible - and definitely iOS 7.

Can't wait for iOS 7! Any predictions on when it'll be ready to download? As for the ipad launch I don't think that'll happen, it'll be all about the iPhones.

Hopefully around 2 hours after the event for iOS 7.

Hoping they stream the event live like they did for the last two..

Isn't that obvious lol? It'd cause a lot of grief if the new iPhones got the OS before the rest of the older devices.

I think they usually release the new iOS a few days before the first pre ordered iPhones start arriving. The announcements, however, would be on the same day (at this event).

18th September, 2 days prior to a 20th September release for the new phones - or so has been rumoured.

It seems silly to give old owners the update first, but they will. Makes more sense to release it AFTER the upgraders and new buyers use it.

---

Would be very surprised to see new iPads - it wouldn't be customary to release two major products (from separate divisions) at the same event. I think the iPhone 5C is Apple's way of finally erasing the iPod Touch.

Unfortunately, I am now working all afternoon and evening so won't be around for the event ;(

Doubt Steve would've made a cheaper iPhone, or the iPad Mini for that matter. Anywho....

I imagine he had plans for them before he died - he was a smart guy, and would go where the market looked strong.

Exactly. I'm not much of an Apple fan but sick of hearing Steve wouldn't have done this. When Steve was in good health there wasn't' as much competition. Steve might have disliked certain stuff but it's now what's selling and at the end of the day he was a businessman wanting to make money.

I'm also surprised to see no mention of the iWatch. Obviously it's still just a rumour but with Samsung just showing their Galaxy Gear Smart Watch it would be a good time to announce it. Apple hasn't had anything new in quite some time and I can see this being the product that got them back to the top.

Tim Cook basically gave it away that they were developing a smart watch a few months back,

Also, speaking of Steve I think I read somewhere that Steve had basically developed a plan for products of the company to follow for like the next 20 years, like Steve started to develop the iPad way before the iPhone.

Bet everyone will get the cheaper one though - if it is sold in the UK certainly the more expensive one will see less sales. Millions still buy the iPhone 4S and 4, so I have no doubt they would get the 5C. If anything, I can really see Apple's market share in the UK and USA markets growing relatively significantly, if they release the cheaper model there.

Yeah I'm not doubting it'll not sell. It will. That's pretty clear, but personally I just feel its a tacky and cheap remake with some what worse specs to the 5S - From what rumours have stated.

And the feel of it also, not really something I would want to touch daily if its made of what every website is stating.

Oh totally, personally I wouldn't do it anyway - but then as a self-labelled "tech geek", I am not usually one to go for the budget option. I imagine they are slowly eroding the iPod Touch away, which explains the absurd price hike for the last generation, and basically gives people what they wanted years ago (ie. the iPod Touch to have cellular capabilities).

I hope it isn't a huge success, but, judging by the iPad Mini sales I totally expect it to be.

Is it just me who thinks this is bad marketing? I mean someone who has a non apple phone might want to watch the event to see the competition and contemplate moving to apple but wait you can't watch without an apple device. Just seems a bit backwards to me.

Also does anyone know how much the iphone 5c is not on contract as the cheap price is contract based. I read a lot of people who'd want a cheap model would probably want a cheap pay & go model so if it's going to be expensive on pay & go it might defeat it's actual purpose

You are so blatantly a fanboy... you have COMPLETELY ignored that Apple happen to do the exact same thing (in fact, if you watch the event, I believe it was Phil Schiller makes a joke about Android). Furthermore, HTC and Samsung, along with Google do it. Every tech company does it - although in this case, Nokia is clearly making a joke - which whether you like it or not, is pretty amusing.

---

So, after getting through work I have just watched the event. I have to say, I think the iPhone 5C looks beautiful. I love that sort of design, and imagine that will sell incredibly well (guys, HTC One X.. beautiful). However, in stark contrast, I really cannot remember ever seeing such a vile case for a phone (ala iPhone 5C case (http://photos.appleinsider.com/iphone-5c-cases-backs-20130910.jpg)).

The 5S isn't a major upgrade, but still has some pretty decent features. The finger print scanner, if (and only if) it works as well as they showed is definitely an excellent addition. I would definitely like to try it, and find out how well it works. Not too sure on the champagne coloured iPhone, although I think it looks nicer than the silver one (personally, I would go for the grey type if I was getting the 5S). Cannot believe how much the 64gb one costs on-contract in the USA ($399 plus the usual 2 years of monthly payments!), although this may be no different to the old pricing. I thought the leather cases looked attractive on the 5S, and would definitely like to see how good they are to hold. I'm not sure going two separate ways (64 bit architecture etc) is a great move, as I would be concerned about the 5C ending up missing out on truly quality apps, although this may not turn out to be the case.

The last thing that I found rather amusing was the many HTC moments that flooded into the event. Larger pixels to gain more light is something HTC started with the HTC One. The automatic folders is something HTC did with the HTC One. There were a few more things, but off the top of my head I cannot remember them. I was surprised by the rather small auditorium, which brought back memories from the early noughties Apple event, although I guess it was for the inbetween phone between the 5 and 6, but even so.

I would say someone who talks absolute crap to defend a company, and has the name iBlueBox is probably a bit of fanboy lol

Thinking their phone would be the same price as Apple TV? :L How cute aha :)

Names more of a reference to Doctor Who, then Apple, Also I wasn't really 'defending' a company :S one comment dose not make me a fanboy, when I use multiple OS's... :S

Clearly, Microsoft isn't doing so good so still,

It makes me laugh when a company like Microsoft directly attack another one on their adverts, like their iPad vs Surface ones.. It just shows how bad their doing that they have to compare directly, to make a mock.

Can you please show an advert of Apple directly comparing it's product next to another? such as Microsofts surface by the iPad...

Whether you meant it to or not, those two posts do make it look as though you are guarding Apple :L

Just been looking a bit more at the iPhone 5S/C and comparisons to their main competitor, the Galaxy S4. It seems to me that there's no actual indication that the iPhone 5S has the upper hand on the Galaxy S4 which has been out for a while now. For example:

- iPhone 5S says it'll last up to 10 hours with 3G, whereas GS4 states the size of the battery, and how long to expect it to last (quite a while longer than 10 hours depending on what you're using it for though). Apple doesn't give any indication whether the battery life will deteriorate below 10 hours if you're doing something other than 3G.

- The fingerprint sensor is great for security and seems to be the only thing which is clear that the GS4 does not have. On the other hand though, iPhone still doesn't have NFC tech.

- No indication on the amount of RAM in the device, meaning it could still only have 1GB yet have a x64 CPU, leading onto my next point;

- No indication of what the x64 CPU is actually capable of and whether it's faster than a quad-core CPU, or whether it's even quad-core or just dual core... It's all very shady advertising, believe what you wanna believe.

Overall, sure Apple have slapped a few new colours onto a phone and made a plastic version, then slapped a few colours onto the iPhone 5S, something I should note btw hasn't actually been made a big deal of! Remember when the first white iPhone came out? Think it was the 3GS? Everybody went ape! Now nobody cares that you can get 3 different colours in aluminum, and god knows how many in plastic.

Consumers will buy the iPhone no doubt, because it's like with computers everybody is a bit scared of change such as moving from Windows to Mac or vice-versa that they'd never actually switch unless something crazy happened... But you can't help but think Apple have kinda given this iteration a half-arsed attempt and focused solely on software, which is going to be just as good on the iPhone 5? I'll be intrigued into how many people upgrade to a 5C or 5S, as I don't think the benefits are clear enough for anybody to make a decision.

Am I the only one who thinks it's really bad that the iPhone 5C costs nearly just as much as the iPhone 5S on pay as you go? Anyone in their right mind would just pay that little extra for the 5S. I don't even think the contract deal is 'value for money'. It's usually only a matter of months before you can get the iPhone on a 2 year contract for a reasonable price. When the 4S came out I paid £100 I think and that was only around 3 months after release? Then again I don't know why I'm surprised, this is just business and more importantly this is Apple.

Of course you are not! The iPhone 5C is merely a way for Apple to grab headlines again, which is something they have been losing out on. A colourful iPhone is just this - I doubt the C-line will last particularly long, to be honest.

Yeah it is expensive, but so is the 5s - when I bought my 4s it was £599 for 32gb - now I'd be paying £629. And the 16gb is now £549 whereas it used to be £499 :(. However, I think I'm going to just go for the 5c, imo it looks nicer and the 5s doesn't have enough for me to need to pay an extra £80.

As for NFC - is it really necessary on a phone atm? I can't think of any ways that I'd use it tbh. Just like the fingerprint sensor which seems like a bit of a novelty. If you're asleep someone (e.g. my brother) could get my 5s, touch it on my finger then walk away with the phone unlocked lol.

Lol I know but it could happen. And you can use either pass code or fingerprint but if you use finger print to unlock you don't have to enter a pass code.

Decided to go for the 5c in white. Has anyone else? Or anyone planning on getting the 5s?

I'm not upgrading, only got the 5 this year. Plus my contract upgrade isn't until like 2014/2015.

The only reason I'm getting the 5s will be because I currently have a 3GS which really needs an upgrade.

I wouldn't go for Windows Mobile but Windows Phone may be an option for some people. It will be interesting to see the sales from these two new devices - If anything is to go by they probably will do like most other Apple products seem to do these days.
