View Full Version : How do you deal with stress??

I used to just try the slow deep breaths thing for dealing with stress and it worked for quite a while, but lately it's not working at all and I get so worked up over everything. I'm either at college where I'm stressed about not understanding something or the amount of work I have to (I'm pretty much staying behind every day for a few hours just to get through it) and then I go back to my family who just argue and shout constantly I can't catch a break and I have no idea how to "destress" any tips?? :@
I don't really stress about anything anymore, I just get on with it without thinking about it too much

It may sound pathetic to some people but I cry. I feel so much better after a good cry haha
This is mostly for anger but it could work for stress too I guess - as breaking stuff is a bit extreme I rip up stuff, old books which are rubbish or just paper. It seems to do something for me idek

Uhh a friend once told me something which has always stuck with me and seemed like a good piece of advice. And that was that you should always find out exactly what's bothering you and then think what you can do to fix it. I think she said something along the lines of "there's no point in trying to work out the answer if you don't know the question" and I always liked that.
Also, remember you don't have to deal with stress/anxiety on your own. Tell the people you trust around you and they will want to help.

"suck it up and move on"
that's the question asked. how you move on................................................ .............................
I have major anxiety and haven't yet found a way to control my stress. I stress so much, it's horrible. I'm just thankful I don't suffer anything due to it like breaking out or whatever.
Usually when my boyfriend is around, he'll get me to take deep breaths. It works I guess?

I think you need to find time (hard, I know) to do things that just don't stress you out - a hobby or something. I'm quite lucky because I genuinely enjoy my job. I could possibly say that I like being at work more than being at home (not that there's anything wrong with home, I'm just really happy in my job).
I've recently taken up Archery (and do it with my work colleagues in the garden of our office... long story) which I find as a great way to de-stress and something to just focus all of your time on. Whilst I'm shooting, I'm not thinking about anything else other than hitting the target so as you're not thinking of your worries, there's nothing to stress over.
One strange thing I used to do when I was younger when I was angry/stressed was laugh, forcibly. I used to just fake laugh hysterically and you end up laughing at yourself. (NOTE: Probably best practised alone and not in work/class haha!)
Don't worry, be happy! :)

Used to smoke occasionally and it did help a lot and it's becoming an option again. I do remember when I tried getting (back) into running (although i gave up i am the laziest idiot ever) it did calm me down and cheer me up weirdly haha, thanks for this.

I sleep for several days whilst listening to sad music. Or I punch / kick something multiple times. There's currently a hole in the wall next to me.

Usually scam a new habbo. Only get stressed when im scammed.
When I get stressed its usually at work, I just put my headphones in and listen to some chilled music for a while.

I listen to music, rant to friends who's a good listener and occasionally I'll punch something or something like that. I used to self harm, not like cutting, like scratching my legs/hands until they bled and it helped calm me down but of course it isn't healthy to do that. Honestly I agree with Empired in that you need to find the question before you find the answer. You've mentioned that it's college work and family that are getting you down. Instead of going home to a family that argues, go to the cinema, go to the library if you have work to finish off, go to a friend's house, go to the park, whatever, but you need to change what's making you unhappy. I feel like I was stuck in a rut a few weeks back, I spoke to my mum about it and I felt better about it, although the problem isn't solved.

I just eat. Not really a good solution.
I think the best way to deal with stress is to break up the task into smaller portions.

if im angry stressed ill punch something, break something, throw something
if im sad stressed ill just cry for hours and then eventually fall asleep but if im out or at school ill just go to my friend and cry into her or something

I stop what I'm doing and I go and relax. Usually either chatting with the fiancée, or playing games :)
Getting stressed out makes me tired, so I usually just fall asleep.
