We'll be able to vote in March if it goes through, it's garnered a lot of support from republicans because of the TNM which is great.
I know I'll be voting for us to become an independent nation if it happens.

Sounds like a silly idea to me and it would cause numerous problems. Also wouldn't it make republicans less likely to become president of the USA? And think about all the money wasted on setting up borders.

There's hardly any suppport for secession of Texas, this looks like a waste of time.

By that logic most independence movements are silly :L

Why?
As for Texas, I'm pretty sure they've been saying this ever since they became a state.

Not being funny but how can a group of inbreds run a country? Loool. Saying that I guess our government runs ours.

Not really. Like all the commonwealth countries would have had borders anyway :P This is a bit like Cornwall trying to break away :P
Also if Scotland did break away, I'm guessing they remain in the EU? Otherwise they would have to deal with borders as well :P

Whats wrong with 'dealing with borders'?
Borders are there to protect from foreign criminals, mass immigration, disasters/asylum seekers and even epidemics. They are a good thing.

I do wonder how the new country of Texas would be able to afford putting borders around one of the biggest state lines in the country.

Uh I think your confusing borders and the border checks with the Israel-Palestine wall or the Berlin wall.

I do mean border checks, but surely all roads in and out of Texas would need to be regulated, right?

Border checks are not a huge expense to any government, indeed one of the only purposes of a government is to protect it's borders as it is a key definition of nation sovereignty. But anyway, who said they'd need to reinstate border checks? Texas could operate a system like Britain and the Republic of Ireland have done since southern Ireland broke away whereby we have an open border.
The real need for a Texas border wall is to the south of the state which needs protecting from the illegal alien invasion.

I don't know, the people that are in charge of Texas going for independence say the current government is practically evil, so why they would have an open border I don't know :P Sounds to me that the people in charge of Texas just want to have control over a few more things really :P
And surely they already have the border with Mexico set up already? They'd just take it from the USA :P
Also, why would happen to NASA? They are based in Houston, Texas - so do Texas rob the USA of their space program or do Texas lose all the American businesses from their major cities? And then of course Texas needs to sort out Power, Water, Sewage, Defence, Army etc. etc.
And as I said before, pretty sure Texas going independent would make it a lot easier for Democrats to become the president, since there will be no huge boost of electoral votes for the republicans with Texas gone. It really seems to me like one hungry power trip :P

Yes that's exactly it, because if you look at the way the Federal US Government behaves towards the states in totally ignoring states rights then you'd see exactly why Texans might be thinking of leaving the United States when it's moving so far left from what it was originally intended to be. The United States was and is not supposed to be a unitary state, it's supposed to be a very loose federal state.

NASA? and? these are the same dud economic arguments given against Scottish independence (which i'm against) or Britain leaving the EU (which i'm for). The fact is that you haven't got to be in a political union with another country to co-operate or trade with that country ... just as the US isn't a part of Russia yet both co-operate just fine on space programmes. Just as Britain isn't in a political union with Canada and Australia yet co-operates with both on defence and even shares a head of state. Just as Britain has many Japanese car factories despite not being a province of Japan.
As for water and sewerage erm, they are already in place.

Can you blame them? Both the Democrat Party and the GOP (nationally) are a disgrace. One of the things that pisses off southerns for example is how the national parties (mainly the Democrats) are overriding states rights and forcing ridiculous laws on the likes of Texas: for example, hospitals in the south have been going bankrupt because it's required by federal law that illegal aliens must be treated if they walk into an emergency room.

Just on this point... So Texas handles all it's own water and sewage? Absolutely none of it comes from/goes to other states? I'd be pretty impressed if that was the case.

And what reason or evidence do you have to believe that this would cease should Texas declare independence?

Debate on Scottish independence would be a good topic in the Debate section
