Hello,
I wondered, because I remembered years ago forums used to do this including HxF - why are big givaways not held anymore (usually by General Management) where a piece of cheap furniture is only handed out once somebody has signed up to the forum? ..sure most don't stick about, but even if a few hours work gained two members it'd surely then result in them inviting others to join the forum etc? and we'd be attracting younger Habbo users which is surely what we want considering how the demographics are shifting to older users?
I don't know, just a thought.

Hey Dan,
Yeah I don't believe there has been a specific giveaway that is aimed to get members signed up onto the forum like you have mentioned. Will have to disable a few backend plugins we use for it to happen without any cockups but should be okay. Might be best to do it around Halloween time if Foregetfuhl; is up to doing one around that time for the forum.

If it's organised properly there could be a really fun evening to go along with this. I know we had Hx24 recently (did that go well? didn't see anything about it afterwards but haven't looked so might just be me being lazy) and these small-scale versions of big event festivals seem like a good idea even if there's no collective scores and such. The real membership problem to my memory has alllllllllllllllways been in retaining new members rather than just getting more people to sign up but these sorts of things ought to help with both of those if done right and hosted enthusiastically
Yeah definitely if it's done well, it could potentially be an awesome opportunity. Especially with Halloween coming up, giving away Halloween themed furni? Celebrity appearances.. (bots, lol.)
I'm sure if many people from the forum participates, it could be pretty cool.

that's actually a pretty good idea. of course they won't all stick about, but even if just a few do it's always great!! we seriously do need much more young members
(p.s. while we're on the topic of gaining new members someone should open up an rp - i think that'd be a great way to gain some)

In response to the Hx24 thing, I looked at the leaderboard and I'm pretty sure all the top players were Hx Staff, and all the new people were people that played 1 event, won a point, and probably didn't have a clue what was going on.

Business as usual then :P could still be interesting to put on, probably best without a leaderboard type points system (ie: just keep it as you win what you win like normal events) so as not to alienate people

I actually noticed that as well.. I would have thought that staff members should be banned from gaining points in things like these, obviously let them play but surely don't let them win...
Inseriousity.

It'd be pretty difficult to have a leaderboard system for a giveaway anyway LOL.
I'm not entirely convinced with giveaways but it's a change from the usual habboxlive one and getting the code so it might be different. However, with how time consuming it can be to make an account (especially with those unfamiliar with forums), it's certainly not something for 1 person to manage at the front and would need to be divided amongst all the general management or other management rather than just 1 of them.
I know it probably sounds incredibly biased considering it's the department i'm in and care most for, but I do believe comps are incredibly important in order to keep new members around on the forum. Hayden and Shoned recently did the survey to find out exactly what it is you guys want us to do and we've been trying to implement them which I hope is noticeable!

Leaderboard discussion was to do with having a whole evening around this rather than just a giveaway and then fade back into nothingness as usual :P

I don't know about a giveaway, but the forum and events department should hopefully be doing something at Halloween if all goes to planned. It will require people to register on the forum but will also involve Habbo too.
