Prince George to be christened

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's son Prince George will be christened this afternoon in front of close family and friends of his parents. His godparents will be revealed later this morning.

Any views? Anyone care?

People have camped outside since yesterday afternoon!

On my friends birthday too. Apparently Zara (daughter of Princess Anne) is going to be named a godparent.

If it means another bank holiday (doubtful) I'd care a whole lot more!

They've chosen to break tradition and have him christened at the very location Diana's coffin rested before her funeral.

I forgot that he was a boy, lmao!

Really, it doesn't interest me in the slightest. As an atheist, this is just pointless water splashing to me.

They based it on the dress of Queen Victoria's Eldest Daughter... not sure why!!

all royal babies have worn it but a replica was made because the original is now too delicate.

The gown has been used since 1841 for all royal christenings. A replica was made in 2008 as obviously it was so old and had to be preserved. Just another tradition.

ok this isn't relevant to this but jw do we get a day off on the 29th cos of that royal wedding stuff? prefer not to go into school on my birthday ok xo

I don't really ever see the interest in these sort of things. I assume hundreds of babies on that day will be christened so why care about just this one? He's no different to any other baby other than his 'royal status'. Eh I just don't really believe or whatever in all this stuff xD

Who were named the Godparents then?I'm on my tablet, so it's just easier to ask on here.

The Daily Mail had some great pictures of the family afterwards that I can't find now, but most of all this is the most interesting...

All of those people, barring unforeseen circumstances, will be the Head of State of this country and other Commonwealth realms for the rest of most of our lives. I think that's amazing and it's a nod to show the stability that Monarchy brings. But anyway, apparently it's the first time since around 1899 that such a picture has been taken...

The people in that picture (taken 1894) would go on to be (after the death of the Queen-Empress) Edward VIII, George V and Edward VII.
