So, a friend is looking towards getting a new PC, so thought I'd post here for the help of people on here. Recommend the Dell XPS 8700, but ultimately the graphics card is a let down (GTX 650) - would play games that they want and be capable for photoshop (ie. Sims).

Since manufacturers have the most ridiculous websites in the world to navigate, any suggestions on a decent competitor? Needs to be around £850, max of £1k though and monitor is not needed.

Oh, of course - and believe me, I did get that in there :L

I always struggle not to go over the top though :L Of course, the OS is a big cost, and one that I have never had to factor in before. I tried getting a core i7 4770, 16gb ram, 750 gtx gpu but it ended up nearer the £1k, which I am trying to avoid. I think the SSD pushed it overboard :L

Throw in a case that takes his fancy. Can drop to 7950 graphics card if need be, can increase SSD if need be. If he needs a keyboard/mouse can throw in cheap ones as well as that's what you get with the dell.

Photoshop and Sims? I'm not one to turn people away from a custom build but it seems a laptop/macbook is a more sensible choice here.

Indeed, it doesn't need to be super powerful - although I would argue that the Sims is incredibly good at lagging :L I did wonder about a MB Pro, although the person did specify a "desktop would be preferable".
