Ok, so I just got a new phone and I was wondering why when I use the internet on it, it costs me money. I use my own wifi (from my house) and my 3G is on. So I was wondering why it's costing me to use the internet. On my old phone when I used my wifi, it didn't cost me, but now it does. So I was wondering why. Is it the 3G that's making it cost or is it just iphones that cost when you use the internet (even if your using wifi)

Some phones will disconnect from the Wi-Fi when it is not connected to power and then the phone will do an email check or something and it could end up using 3G, technically it should bounce back to Wi-Fi when it needs it but sometimes they do not. On the iPhone the easiest thing to do would be go to Settings > Mobile > Scroll down and see what uses the most :)

iPhones don't cost when you're using your own Wifi. As Flairr; mentioned, go to Settings > Mobile to see the list of apps which have been using up your 3G. From there you can disable mobile data for certain apps, meaning they will be restricted to Wifi. Alternatively, on the same page but near the top, you could turn off Mobile Data, Enable 3G and Data Roaming :).
Which service provider are you on? And which iPhone?
3g has been known to override wifi, turn 3G off in network settings. Also some companies have been charging the use of wifi, I was charged £20 extra for it. That was Vodafone

Turn off Mobile Internet in your settings, never had a problem like this myself on my old 4s when I had it though, WiFi would always take over the 3G Connection.

call o2 and ask them then
Usually wifi takes over a 3G connection. When inside your house or in a wifi place, turn off your 3G so this doesn't happen and contact your provider.

Normally when I'm at home or on any Wifi connection is to turn off my mobile data in the settings just in case.

Does iOS not switch off mobile data when connected to WiFi? How weird.

The Wifi overrides it for sure.

You're out of range or some other problem. WiFi on iOS will always take precedence over 3G.
