Hello,
Last night at 12am EST/5am GMT, I was DJing. Now, I don't normally complaint, but here is my 1 of few complaints. Last night users were not able to send in Req's or shoutouts, so I was basically doing nothing. Now, I know this can't be user fixed by me, so I am going to recomend this:
I think we as an Official Fansite should have a site coder on hand incase something like this arises, like last night. We should have a site coder from EACH region. (NA, EU, OC). General Management were asleep while this happened. This makes the DJ's job A LOT harder as we don't have any idea what the listeners want to hear. Yes, it was not a peak hour, but we should always have at least 10 people tuned in, we had 5 my WHOLE show. I don't want to tell anyone how to do their job, but I suggest this issue is fixed ASAP.
Thanks,
LoganD

Not required, it's obviously an isolated incident, and I highly doubt there's people who actually know what they're doing in different zones, never mind the fact you'd need to trust them (which imho would be very hard to do).
Overall seems absolutely pointless, you couldn't receive req's for a few hours on probably 10 listeners, doesn't mean you sit and do nothing, just means you overplay the same overplayed crap that's overplayed on every other national radio instead of waiting for them to request it.

Not everyone who are able to be a site tech. I know quite a bit in site tech but I wouldn't be online every day and every hour... unless I really have to.
I am sure there are a few good tech here but trusting is the big part here before hiring.

the forum was down for over 4 hours. so it makes it hard for non gmt manager to do anything forum related when its down

The uptime of Habbox recently has been good and has been better than it was a good few months ago. We was down from around 4:30am GMT and we came back up after I restarted a service around 8:30am GMT. The reason we don't have people from the major timezones who can fix these problems is because there isn't always someone we can trust. "Site Coders" don't have access to the server root or anything like that in the first place. Jin/Sierk will not trust access to the server willy nilly and therefore it has to be people we have known for years and can trust. Site Coders are just coders, they aren't server technicians or anything like that. It's a whole different area.
The downtime that occurred early this morning was an isolated incident.

I do agree that we need more intl. people, across the board, but that's not to say that it's useless or anything. Thing is, we don't really have any active GMT side coders - only Tom, who has 2xAGM roles to do, and Will ('working' on V7), plus other Tom, who manages the server and stuff.
Thing is, it's easy to DJ without requests or shoutouts - I doubt people will actively tune out, and you could easily say on air the system isn't working so get down to Habbo and let me know what you want me to play on there!
If Habbox is down then people won't really be listening in I don't think, they'd have to go on tunein or something anyway.

Like others have said, it's about trust and yeah we may need more international staff, but it's also finding them. I was up at 7 and noticed it was down, unfortunately even as AGM I can't fix it, nor would I know how. Plus there's not just GM who can fix it. I know what you mean though and I'm sure we'll get more if it becomes a regular occurrence.
Surely the answer is not to hire any more coders/technicians but to sort the server downtime out? Over the years I've been at Habbox the server has never really been 100% and I've never understood why.

Nothing is ever 100%.

But with us being an official fansite, wouldn't our uptime/downtime be an issue? Like, wouldn't General Management aka MattG, Sam, Tom and Jin & Sierk care about uptime?

Obviously, but if its at like 2am when there's probably 10 listeners and it happens on a one off, they're not going to give someone they don't trust access to the server for something that might possibly never happen again
If it was regular then that's a different issue, but it's not.

These things are easier said than done, and as others have already said: what would be the point going through the process of hiring someone trusted for something that doesn't regularly happen and is not at a peak time?
Obviously uptime is important, but not to the point of risking the site for a one-time error.

I dont understand you saying just because we are an official fansite we should have 100% uptime. Nothing is ever perfect.

Do you not think we should have 100% uptime? Look at other sites. I rarely see them down.

It would be great but it wont happen :P. I don't see the other fansites down because I rarely go on them.

My main point of this thread was to adress the issue and adress a possible fix. Having a TRUSTFUL site tech from the NA region or OC region would be great.

No fansite or website has 100% uptime that's for sure. I have seen fansites have more downtime than Habbox in general - Nothing is ever perfect. It's like anything in life, your computer, car etc. You make it sound like we are having downtime every day of the month - We aren't. The last time we had downtime previous to this was on the 7th Dec and that was due to network issues at the datacentre which was outside of our control.
I'm sorry that the downtime affected your show and we do care about the uptime of the server but when this is an isolated event there isn't much we can do at this moment in time. If it's happening on a daily/regular basis then sure we will look into the issues and see what is causing it and fix it. We don't have anyone outside the GMT timezone as there is no one we have known for a while or trust with the level of access they would need to solve these issues. We do have people who are able to solve the issues but are in the GMT timezone only.

how many fansites do you honestly see that have 100% uptime? Considering most of the new sites and th/fh are getting dosed on a regularly basis and the owners getting bored or moody

Give us £100 a month so we can setup a highly available system and we'll guarantee 100% uptime. As it stands, Jin is paying out of his own pocket for things like cPanel licenses and even server/domain costs. VIP doesn't cover current costs, let alone guaranteeing uptime.
