Have you in the past or would you in the future donate blood?

I think the question asked in my last thread on would you accept a blood transfusion confused people.

Anyway if you wouldn't donate blood why not?

yeah I don't get why more people dont do it (the eledgible ones anyway)

it's only a session every few months, you're helping people and your body will renew it anyway

interesting read about a guy who's donated over 1000 times because his unusual blood plasma composition can be used to make treatments for Rhesus disease (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Harrison_%28blood_donor%29)

A lot of people faint and still do it again. You shouldn't be afraid of donating just because of the possibility that you might faint :P

Thanks you, seems I can give it and because I'm male I can do it more regularly than females (4 times a year as opposed to 3) - might go about doing it then :P

Certainly considered it before yeah. May get round to it eventually.

I cannot handle needles. I refuse to have my blood taken for any reason when doctors have asked me once or twice. (same with any injections) I'd love to give blood, but I'm unsure. If it was someone I cared about, I'd probably do it though.

I don't even know my blood type.

also this

A man (if you're a male). Men who have had anal or oral sex with another man (with or without a condom) are deferred from blood donation for 12 months.

I won't due to the fact that I don't meet criteria over here.
Main point being anyone who's lived in England at a specific time can't donate as their blood might be contaminated with mad cow disease.. But other than that you have to be over a certain weight which I'm not and I have anaemia so I can't because of that either.

I always said I would once I turned 16, but I haven't yet mostly because no one is interested in doing it with me or two people who I know do donate, can't anymore :l

In the future I would really like to yes.

i want to and definitely will in the future. have no problems with blood or needles (that i'm aware of) so see no reason not to do it :)

I've tried to a few times but had to be turned away because they didn't have any time to see me. It's just when I've walked past a thing to donate, I've never gone out specifically to do it.

Makes no sense not donate, you don't lose anything and if you suffer an accident and need blood, you'll have helped yourself or saved other lifes.

Matt

Never really thought about it. I don't really like needles but I'd do it I had to.

IceNineKills

People who say "no because I'm scared of needles/blood" really annoy me because if they'd been in a car accident they wouldn't hesitate for a second to accept blood if they needed it. Why should they be allowed to take it if they won't (not can't) give it?

I would love to be able to give blood but I have a blood disease that doesn't affect me much but might affect other people so I can't :(

Well in the cases of some people who are afraid of blood, they faint at the sight of it so it would be extremely difficult for them to do it :P

My mother goes regularly and faints every time :P They just give you a cup of tea and a biscuit and let you lie down on a bed for twenty minutes or so and then you're off home again.

I probably would. I get tons of bloodtests doen all the time so needles don't bother me much which is a good thing.

This annoys me too, you are helping someone else and saving their life. IT is rather selfish tbh because I bet of those people needed other peoples blood they wouldn't say no.

I would like to donate blood if I was eligible, I would do so as often as I was allowed to. But unfortunately I'm not eligible.

also this

What country is that rule from, Skandair? In Canada, the rule currently is that if you are a man who has had sex with another man within the last five years you are not allowed to donate blood. And that five year rule is actually new as of 2013, before 2013 the rule was "if you're a male who has ever had sex with another male, ever".

UK rule, but surely if you didn't disclose it it would be ok? It's not like they don't test the blood for infectious diseases. Yeah I will at some point, I probably weigh too little at the moment though. For everyone saying they're afraid of needles, they're really fine it's literally a sharp scratch and that's it... Only hurts if the person is crap and starts wiggling the needle in and out etc. I'm on the organ donor register which I find to be so morbid but oh well, if it helps improve someone's life I'm all for it.

I've donated blood, not so long ago actually, I was shocked on how much blood they actually take though haha.
I don't think it's supposed to hurt as much as it did for me so I don't want to put anyone off but it was so painful. They couldn't find the vain in my arm.... my arm is not that fat I swear.... so they had to keep pulling the needle in and out to find one. My friend came with me who was just laughing at me, brilliant.
