hello

ok so i'm doing a weird poemy exercise thing and i need you guys to help! It's a mass conversation thing but I don't have nearly enough 'voices' in it.

What I want you to do is imagine someone about to kill themselves - you don't know them. You can say one thing to them - make it short. What do you say?

Second thing is (which some people might find hard), imagine you're on the verge of suicide. What do you say? Again, keep it short.

I'll be using anonymous snapshots from any answers to contribute to my poem. I'm happy to share it if you're interested.

The third thing is that if you see someone post something and you feel like replying, please do. I want this to be as genuine a MASS conversation as possible.

The last thing, if a troll comes in and tells you to kill yourself, don't take it personally, this is all theoretical. I need to include things like that, so if I do use your quote in that way I do apologise!

either or both would be extremely useful :)

thank you +rep to anyone who contributes!!!

I'm done.

I wouldn't say anything. I'd literally just hug them as tight as I can & show them I care.

Actions speak louder than words soz.

THAT DOESN'T WORK VERY WELL WHEN YOU'RE TRYING TO WRITE A POEM ELLIOT

IT DEPENDS HOW YOU PHRASE IT.

As I walked into the room, I saw
Little Joey tie a rope around his neck.
I looked at him in awe,
Not a word was said, only a hug was shared.

YEAH. HA. yeah thats terrible but ok.

I Would try and prove to them what they should live for
Because It can only get better from that moment on, Instead of eliminating the chance of it getting better

I would tell someone on the verge of suicide that suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem.

I've never been on the verge of suicide, nor will I ever be, because I know that suicide causes a ripple effect, and will impact the lives of the people around you in ways that you would never be able to anticipate. So if I was on the verge of suicide, I guess I would tell myself that. However, I will never commit suicide, because in my opinion it is the most selfish thing a person can do.

IDK...

You might hurt now, but think of the devastation you'll leave behind.

What I'd say if I felt that way, that is quite tough...

It's going to happen anyway, why not speed up the process?

IDK. :(

1st one: Don't try a permanent solution for a temporary problem.

2nd one: Life may be short, but it's the longest thing you'll experience.

First one: But what about the people who love you?
Second one: I have nothing to live for.

oops i tried to make it small but

What I want you to do is imagine someone about to kill themselves - you don't know them. You can say one thing to them

I know it's hard and I know you're tired but your life might get better and you might wake up one day and think that this would've been a terrible decision. It might work out and you gotta try!

imagine you're on the verge of suicide. What do you say?\
I'm tired and I don't think my life is worth living. Everything is messed up and nothing works out according to my wishes and I'm tired of having a positive outlook towards my life when everything is happening for the worse

Thanks everyone who has contributed! I have finished it for now but I might add to it at a later date. It's been really interesting getting all of these, mixing them with academic references, other forums/responses and quotes from books!

If you're interested in knowing more about what I'm doing, it's called 'found' poetry, and the idea is to gather a bunch of words/sentences/sources and mash them up so they form a poem. Ish. It's really pushing the boundaries of what's culturally acceptable as 'poetry', but that's kind of what I do these days!

So yeah, this might look weird to you all, it still looks weird for me, but yeah pushing the boundaries. It's in with a bunch of other weird poems as well, might actually post some later:P

Here's the completed poem!

a conversation
with the end

weary and stale, I’m done
tomorrow’s a new day
find yourself
another soul to cling to
a million people
everything will sort itself out
this is not me
help me
shall we go for coffee?
God has expectations, and makes demands.
Coffee?
Fulfilling
these is for the believer both a commission and a sort of satisfac-
tion
I quit.
I’m so alone
No!
Where are you?
No more.
Don’t you dare
actions speak louder.
unwillingness doesn’t
Stop the world.
Kill yourself.
death is approaching
tell them I’m sorry
this is not it
this is impossible
don’t do it
a common disorder
there is so much more
I believe the fact that the border between distress
and depression is not clearly marked
stop
what if there is nothing
it’s all pointless
worthless piece of crap
this is the end of the road
so insignificant
end of our conversation
goodbye
I’m supposed to be having the time of my life.

And I've done a spoken one, I had to do the transcript but it's meant to be just a spoken poem.
