do you prefer to spend or save your money? i'll give a situation to make it easier

you receive money as a gift on christmas. do you spend it straight away or save it for something else?

i save bout 70% of any money I get unless i need it for anything. if I have money in my card I will find something to buy with it, same when i have change in my pocket. so i try only have what i need, can always go into my savings if i NEED anything.

i am 21 but my mum gets on my back about saving money and asks me to give her money to put into savings. thank god for that or I'd save a lot less than i do!!

I managed to blow a lot of money in the past few years so I was a spender

I'm turning a new leaf this year tho, trying to save atleast 50% of any income

me and my friend have this saving forfit on if we fail to save 50% and so far its worked

Unfortunately, I'm definitely more of a spender than I am a saver. I was always a saver when I was a kid up until about age 17, but since then I am so bad with my finances and I spend more money than I have. It's definitely something I have got to work on in 2014.

I'd spend it for the sales, but then get waaay carried away and go into my own momey :L
I'm always a big spender. ;) I can't save, only way I try is coppers lol. I have a piggy bank ;) I need to do something more in ways of savings, but I just can't be arsed.

I'm definitely more of a spender. However, if there is something I really want I will save.

but then i save when its like march and then anything i buy is really cheap and silly like temp tattoos with smiley faces on that are like 10p or something :P my mum would just buy me what i need since its just pjs, sprays/perfume and makeup normally or school stuff and she can get everything except the school stuff from avon and she gets discounts so she doesnt mind woo

Spender. Whenever I get paid I say I'll save it so I can buy whatever I need, but it's usually gone within a week.

usually i'm a really good saver but recently i've just been wanting new clothes. like my old ones were only good for the summer, and even now i hate them so i kinda felt the need to buy some clothes. also buying a new bed, but that's kind of a need too because mine's uncomfortable.

usually i'd save my money though, wouldn't spend much of it for ages.

I'm a saver when I'm actually earning money but currently I'm a spender, as soon as my loan comes through I spend it all.
As soon as I start working again I plan on saving.

Fair amount of my small savings are locked up in pure silver coins.

As soon as I'm given money, I spend it. I Would love to save it but whenever I plan to save it, I Go out shopping with my friends so I'd have to dip in.

I Never ask my parents for money but they sometimes borrow from me, a couple of quid. So that makes me dip into saving money :P

If I need it for something then I will save it. If I have nothing I need to pay for then I will spend it.

Bit of both. I'll spend way too much for 2 months and then not let myself buy anything at all for the 2 months after that. Then the cycle continues.. :(

I save a lot of my money because I live off of it for 8 months of the year.

I'm definitely a spender. I finally set up a direct debit a few months ago so that £200 a month is put into a savings account which will hopefully come in handy when I actually need it. Generally though I am not that good at saving money, or at least making it last the month. Just this afternoon after leaving university me and my friend went to Selfridges as he needed to get some coffee and I ended up walking out with a £125 wallet that I've wanted for a while. I'm regretting it now a little but it is so nice! Having said that, now that I've got it it will most definitely last me for a long while so I see that more of an investment piece. Also this year I am trying to stop buying unnecessary stuff that I don't need, say for instance I would pop into M&S on my way home from uni to get a drink, now instead of getting the drink I go without and at the next cash machine withdraw £10 and then that ends up going into a savings jar. Hopefully that way as well I cut down on the amount of useless stuff I buy and also start saving a lot of money.

My situation is kind of weird.

If I'm hungry, I'll easily spend my money on food. I could get food from home, but fast food is obviously more appealing and the cheap'ness (even though I know it eventually adds up) makes me feel better about it.
Other things, like clothes/makeup/etc, I figure out if I really need them. (And my spending limit on things is usually like $10 anyway hahaha)

So I'm really bad at spending money on food, but with other things I'm actually pretty good.
And with your example, if there's any good sales, I'll go out and look. I think I spend my money wisely.

(Lets forget about the ONE time I had $60 saved up and then had a bad week [like seriously, everything was going wrong and I needed something to cheer me up] so I was like *REMOVED*, I need this' :S)

While at uni I have a weekly budget of £50. After I factor in driving lessons, phone contract, contact lenses and then things like Christmas and birthdays popping up I hardly ever have money to treat myself. Any money I have left I save for my yearly summer holiday to America so I tend to buy lots of clothes/ make-up etc then. I do buy a few bits of clothes when I can but usually I'm very good with money. I'm not a saver or a spender, I'm just sensible.
