View Full Version : Bring Back HabboxTV

I worked for HabboxTV back in the day and it was so fun.

I have just come back to the forum after a while and it's good to see the community as active and popular as ever, however the main site seems a little boring. There's not much to do, the news section seems to be rarely updated etc... I see it's still an official fan-site, so I think maybe it could use something different and interesting that might make it stand out and seem a bit more lively again.

HabboxTV must have been gone for a long time now, years and years, but even after it closed there were a few popular Habbo TV sites, many of which I worked on. I don't know if there's anything like that still out there now but I think it would be really cool if Habbox brought this back.

With the right people behind it that are dedicated and have creative and interesting ideas, a couple of great and varied shows lined up and cross-department promotions, I believe it could be something really cool.

I mean even if there were just a few pilot series or something to test the waters? No harm in trying. We already have the radio, so why not try and provide another great form of entertainment for visitors to the site?

I mentioned this in a recent thread and it looks promising that it'll be coming back soon. Good potential there I think :)

Basically scripted shows that were "filmed" on Habbo. There were several different series - dramas, comedies, even chat shows and stuff. It was a separate department of Habbox, it even had it's own website at one point I believe. They were basically screenshots edited together and episodes would be released on a weekly basis, sometimes with viewer interaction etc.

Staff would collaborate to come up with new ideas for show, and non-staff could submit ideas to become producers or writers or whatever and there was a section on the forum for each show and people used to get really excited about new episodes coming out each week etc... It was a really good little community and it was fun making the shows and it was fun for everyone to discuss and watch them.

Really bad flash animations that were essentially Habbo soaps.

I think nostalgia is making people think of HabboxTV as a super great thing - when really, it was quite crap :P If it was done these days, the quality would have to be much better, and personally, I think the interest would be there if it was done for the forum and about people on the forum, rather than a Habbo soap type thing. I think it was wixard that managed to create those flash things that went down well?

While I wasn't around when HabboxTV was a thing, I'm not sure if it's worthwhile bringing it back. While some user may want it back, it seems like it's for nostalgia purposes than anything else. I think the biggest difficulty would be trying to build a team of skilled people who are willing to make these videos somewhat regularly. I mean, if departments like events are finding it hard to recruit staff, I feel that HabboxTV would find it much harder.

Did it have much of an audience?

OMG wow how cool! I remember 'Cyanide' was like the first incarnation of HabboxTV, I think. At least it was the first proper show. Then 'The Street' was probably the most popular series that was ever made in this kind of format. It had several series and grew into a pretty mature and engaging story.

You're right, it would. But it's not like other departments such as events and competitions since all of the work can be produced in advanced. Someone just needs to upload the shows at the right time then. Of course finding staff will be hard, but all it really needs is one or two popular series for people to become interested. It would definitely take a long time, but how would we know until it was tried?

Yeah a few shows were quite popular and there was quite a lot of excitement for a few of the shows

Obviously it's not for everyone. Nothing is. But everything on every Habbo fansite back then was basically pretty tacky and rubbish lol. I think the people in charge now generally have a better understanding of what people want, what is good and what isn't. And there should be some kind of research to see what users would be interested in viewing.

The peak of it didn't really involve animations, they were more like slideshows that told stories and they were just like mini-series. I think it could be fun, if anything else.

Exactly :) If it fails, then it fails. But then again it could be really fun. At least Habbox could say that they tried to do something a bit different.

I'm not against giving it a go but personally I think Habbox needs to improve as it is now before bringing in another department. Not that I'm saying Habbox is bad or anything but it's not as big as it was when I joined in 2010 and throughout 2011 and maybe even 2012. 2013 just wasn't a good year and Habbox kinda went into a slump. I think it's doing so well right now and it's on its way back up to the top. I just think we should just keep going in the direction that we are going and then, when we're ready, throw in something like HabboxTV to mix it up

Well like I said, it's not something that can just be done overnight. Plans would need to be made and maybe if there were pilot episodes etc and people became interested then Habbox would be ready to take it on?

Besides, maybe new content like HabboxTV is what the site needs... If it's in a slump it probably needs new things ASAP to rejuvenate some life and interest.

I don't think the quality would be an issue at all as long as they were entertaining in the writing - people love things that are horrendous, as proved in your next sentence about Tara's flash things that were made from a "type words here" website :P

Yeah it could improve the site I understand the point don't get me wrong. But I think the current departments needs all the attention from GM as they can without them trying to set up something new

FlyingJesus
09-01-2014, 10:11 PM
idk, if HxTV was done well and not with the same writing "quality" as the news department it could give Habbox an edge that other fansites don't have. We used to be the place to go for rare values but since no-one except the rare values team cares about that any more we could really do with a new gimmick

This is often the case - so many plans, so much support, little outcome.

I don't think this is the case with this idea, I was talking about it only yesterday and plans seem to be moving along nicely. HabboxTV was briefly revived when Sammeth. was in charge of the Productions department and the reason it died out was that the work involved in it is immense. It could fall into that trap again but Habbox needs something unique that distinguishes them from other fansites and while HxTV isn't a unique idea, it is something we can show off. Yeah the videos aren't going to be winning any Oscars any time soon but it'd be good to show them off and the odd series might actually gain some sort of a following.

oh crap wrong account LMAO

they can leave it to the department managers, it's what they're there for!

i can't imagine general management making any major changes with departments anytime soon so something like this would be cool

What did Bolt even leak anyways? Does nobody know, or am I the only one that never found out?

Kardan

Hang on a second, Bolt's post saying "Mike said it's coming back" gets removed, but Mike's post saying it's coming back doesn't?

I think general management should just full out censor any posts that mention the post that was removed. That would totally make the thread a nice flowing read.

As much as I loved HabboxTV back in the days. I feel it's not needed anymore and it's an old and outdated concept. We have all the old episodes on archive for nostalgia but past is past and it's time to move on.

But.. I don't see the harm in a couple being made to pilot the idea.
