What is management's opinion on the threads in discuss anything? Does rule A7 need changing?

this thread is pointless.
I find it really worrying though that threads are remaining in that section that are clearly awful. It's all nice that you encourage posting but it is encouraging really weird threads that have no meaning. I don't want to know someone who I don't knows mums maiden name.

There's clearly a correlation between pointless posting and 'Post 100 posts this week and get VIP'.
I do think that 'Discuss Anything' is slightly restricted (for example, I'd put the Habbox nomination thread in spam in there), but if there's threads that only have a one or two word answer and promote no further discussion, it should be in spam. So the mothers maiden names, favourite Habbox rule etc.
I'm currently going through the my unread post from today and any that I think should be moved to Spam, will be moved to Spam as they have been already. Although these posts seem pointless to most, some of them are spurring slight discussion. They're better than than the "What did you eat/drink/watch last" threads though!
Last time there was a spur of these one word reply threads, there was a feedback thread just like this one, you probably remember it! It had a poll to decide what would happen to these threads and the result was that they would stay in Discuss Anything and post count would increase.
I don't think it's posting these threads that are the problem. I think the problems are the people just going into these threads and many others (some of which they know nothing about) and just posting completely pointlessly just to get their post count up to get some Tokens or VIP.

Can we concede that discuss anything should have its post count disabled and spam have its post count enabled. Far more meaningful posts.

MODERATION DEPARTMENT, GET A GRIP WHY IS THERE SO MUCH **** IN THERE?

Spammy one word threads and posts will be removed. If they haven't been already then it's because no one has got to them yet, however I assure you that they will be sorted properly asap.

Thanks for the neg rep Chippiewill, I didn't know creating threads warranted that.
No one is forcing you to open up and read the threads and we may as well move every second thread that exists in discuss everything if we follow your logic. God forbid people in this community who didn't make their accounts in 1990 create some discussion and conversation to keep things active
hxf is for teens, you don't expect extensive discussion in every thread, however i do think some of the threads in Discuss Anything could actually promote some good discussion like we could discuss the reasons why ass is better than boobs but yea some threads are weird
Do yah think there should be specific rules for just the discuss anything forum then?

Shouldn't Habbox Management be welcoming new threads and discussion? Not restricting it?

Yes that is true but i was thinking more 1 word answer threads that there has recently been? Although there is already a rule on that.

This is true and there is an existing rule which members can report threads under for review. I don't see why anything needs to change as the moderators are competent enough to move a thread when it's needed :L

I don't either, just suggesting :P, but everyone seems to go nuts when the forum picks up its activity and then when people stop, people are saying oh the forum is dead.

We're not asking to remove the threads (and hence reduce forum activity), we're just saying the mods should move them to spam.

If the good ones were that good, people would keep them at the top. :)
I agree though - MOVE THEM ALL TO SPAM!
As it stands, I am happy for those threads that are in "Discuss Anything" to stay there. I moderate each area of the forum every night. If there's a particular thread that you think is pointless, use the report feature and myself or Nick will look at it when we are next online.

Newsflash it's not much effort to go through a couple of pages in a subforum to look for threads you enjoy.

The point is that there is no discussion. There have been 72 threads made in Discuss Anything so far in January, of which only 8 have the same person posting more than 3 times and only 1 person having posted more than 5 times in one thread - Skandair being sarcy in the Allah thread. It's not a discussion when people just post yes/no then leave, might as well just have silent polls.

Why move threads at all then?
They're moved based on what subforum they come under category-wise - if you want to take my argument to a ridiculous point where we have no subforums and no categories whatsoever and users end up going through no category system whatosever then sure you go campaign for that.
My post was aimed at the fact that you think they push down all the good threads in a subforum so that they disappear off the planet, when all you need to do is go through probably only the first 2 pages of said subforum if you're an active user.
I'm not going to argue what category they should come under as I couldn't care less.

But it's called "Discuss Anything"?? Surely if we're keeping some of these threads then the title should be changed to "Say Anything" because there is pretty much no discussion in any of these threads.
On the other hand I suppose it does say anything, and anything includes everything...

I don't understand the huge issue.
If you don't like what it says, exit out of it and read another.
The word discuss means it should be a question that requires thought and people talking with each other, but that could then be argued as being in the debate section.
Just drop it.

Forum Rules:
A7. Do not post pointlessly ~
[1] ~ Do not post off-topic ~ An off-topic post has no relevance to the topic or any previous post that is relevant, or does little to positively contribute to the discussion.
[2] ~ Do not spam/make pointless posts. It is not allowed to post random, meaningless, posts or threads on the forum. Examples of this are (ROFLCOPTER!!!!!!); (BYRDSB +HKK; ) (I am a plane)
[3] ~ Do not posts threads which only allow for short, one or two word answers and do not promote active discussion. Posting short replies such as "Yes" or "Nope" is also forbidden.
Spam Rules:
[4] you are allowed to double posts and you can post pointlessly and off topic (excluding posts such as "aisgfhsuifh")
[5]It is not allowed to post pointless posts or threads like "aifdhgsdfhgsdo" or numerous threads which essentially "spam" the New Posts search.
Spam rules override the general forum rules, so rules [1] and [2] do not apply in spam. Rule [3] however does still apply in the spam forum, as there is no rule in the spam rules saying otherwise. Also worth noting that rule [5] means you can't post many threads in spam at one time, no matter the topic.
So, really, with rules [3] and [5], why are threads not being removed from spam? The rules don't say 'If you make these threads, we will remove the post count for them by putting them into spam', the rules say 'Do not make these threads'...
I just wonder why some rules are followed and others are not :P

What rule would that be? It says you can post pointlessly in the spam forum so it's a non issue. moaning for the sake of moaning.

Well you aren't allowed to post numerous threads? That rule is enforced, it's just up to moderator discretion as to how many threads are too many.
