I want to dye my hair a colour similar to this
http://cdn.buzznet.com/assets/users16/callinamarie/default/30-shades-purple-hair--large-msg-136795718476.jpg
but I think I might have to bleach it first because my hair is so dark but the thing is I'm allergic to hair bleach so I was wondering if I found a hair dye similar to the colour above would it have any effect on my hair because its so dark? Or would it end up going a funny colour?
My current hair colour:

No it wouldn't change your hair at all, it's far too dark. What are you allergic to in hair dye?

No chance with something that light straight onto dark hair :( on the plus side those hologram glasses cost like £2 from ebay

I'm not sure its just something in hair bleach, i had a tester done at the hairdresser because I was going to get my hair bleached but the reaction was immediate so she refused, obviously, but the thing is my cousin used bleach to highlight my hair and it didnt affect me at all, so I don't know if I should risk it or not
Edit: I've also used normal hair dye without a problem so its specifically something in bleach

Thanks I'll bare that in mind ;)

Might be worth doing a tiny tester with whatever your cousin poured on your head then, definitely wouldn't attempt a full on bleach job if you're not sure though. One of my chums who is allergic to like everything tried it thinking it would just be fine and while it was hilarious for me I don't think she enjoyed the outcome quite as much

Only problem with that is she's in London and I'm in Blackpool :') I doubt she'll even remember what she put on me because it was in 2011 but I'll ask her anyway, hopefully its not something that only hairdressers can get and is easily accessible in a shop :L
oh ye do what tom said and test it first Jssy; had an allergic reaction to hair dye before which def wasnt great om its a nice colour you want to dye your hair though yay

The only way to dye your hair lighter if you're allergic to bleach is use a hair toner, which will lighten your hair 3 stages lighter, then if it's still dark, probably use it again a week later, so your hair can regain it's keratin back. Then just use a white dye and mix it with that purple colour that is on the girls hair.

Have you tried organic bleaches or organic lighteners, with little chemicals? They take a few goes to get really light but sounds like it might be more suitable for your hair

Yeah that colour is horrible. Maybe if it was a bit more purple and not so gray.

Yeah it's purple :) I've wanted lighter hair for a while tbh and i really like the colour so I might as well instead of being just blonde :')
Abi; how did you find out about your allergy? It would be worth having a hairdresser do a test on you in a salon (if you haven't had that done).
on your question, it would be very hard to find a colour to dye it that light without bleach and it would have a risk of going orange first try. To get it that light without bleach or hair stripper, I would have thought you would have to keep dying it lighter and lighter blondes. Which would murder you hair, depending on what product you use. I would suggest going to a salon to get a colour like that, but it will cost you a fair bit.
Not bad hair colour, but there is a lot of dark pigments in that. It will be hard to maintain, because of the purple and you'd probably have to have it professionally done and re-done mainly because of the roots

I went to the hair dressers and asked if they could bleach my hair about 2 years ago so I had a skin test done and my reaction to it was immediate my skin went bright red and was extremely itchy
I thought I'd probably have to have it professionally done anyway because of, like you said, the different pigments and the fact that my roots would end up being horrible so it would have to keep getting done :')
If you have no previous colour on ur hair you can use high lift ting which isn't bleach. But that's only if u don't have previous colour on.
idk anything about colouring hair but i love that colour
kelly osbourne has a similar colour and i think it looks so gd

Pastel colours are very hard upkeep. It's something you have to commit to as it needs a lot of TLC! :( looks lush though if done proper

So I decided instead of trying to bleach my entire hair first without fulling knowing if I was going to react to it or not, I dip dyed it and I had no major reaction it itched the tiniest amount at first but after a while it was fine.
Heres what it looks like if you care ;) it went a bit more ginger than blonde but idm it doesn't look too bad :L
