please, the effects are quite clearly added to fit in with the theme of the movie, the original is from sleeping beauty and this is for maleficent, where we're seeing the story from the villains POV. it just works better if there's some distortion

without the effects lana still has an amazing voice and is more than capable of giving the song justice

Mmm at first I thought of it like Tom did (i'm not really a fan of Del Rey) but after hearing the whole thing i'm pretty impressed. It's a nice dark cover of the song. I really can't wait for the film, Sleeping Beauty was my all-time favourite Disney movie as a kid and still is.

Watching the original cartoon version of the evil Queen still chills me.

Ruined? The original is still there for you. There is no drone in this song but regardless it's called subjectivity. There is no echo either it's just reverb and her vocals sound pretty distant which is obviously just an aesthetic decision by the producer
