For good video editing I recommend Final Cut Pro
For word processing I would download Office 2011 for Mac, very good programs :)
Hmm what else, maybe download VLC as a new default media app as Quicktime is a mess
First thing I always do with a new OSX is clean up the dock and remove all the junk I don't want there :P

Bought a Macbook for gaming.. wow.
Download and install Steam is an obvious, some decent games on the Mac App Store.
easy enough to torrent them, Transmission.
Coding wise you want TextWrangler.
And you want Office for word processing etc, or pages.. I just prefer office on mine.

I got the exact same one (highest end 13") on monday, it's amazing. So much better than my old computer that was dying on me.
Cinch is a pretty useful app, it basically snaps windows to the side of the screen so you can easily have two folders or whatever next to each other without having to manually resize it (basically does what windows 7 does). Haven't really gotten loads of stuff for it yet, i'm currently downloading windows 8 so that I can install all my steam games since not many of them work on mac. Downloaded microsoft office, adobe master collection and final cut pro. First thing I did once I started it up was download google chrome though, none of this safari crap.

Safari isn't actually crap, it runs the same engine as Chrome, or used to.
Also, I love seeing people who get Macs go through their "Designer" **** phase, Adobe Master Collection? Final Cut Pro? What are you, a hollywood film director who needs access to cut, edit, shoot, produce video/audio/stills on the go? Most I have is Photoshop.
