View Full Version : HxL file naming

Not a huge deal but if we're going to pretend that HxL is some sort of authentic online radio station despite every song being illegally downloaded, can we at least get the DJs to mask their crimes properly and name the files in a way that doesn't make it look like they're cruising LimeWire? They're all over the place at the moment with variations on where featured artists are displayed and all sorts and it's really just lazy.

This is from the "show" (ie: hour-long stream without taking requests) that just finished. Unnecessary random extras in orange, feature differences in lovely brown, cheeky bit of same artist in red literally after just one song, and then the monstrosity in pink at the bottom that I nearly lost because HxL only (publicly) logs 9 songs apparently but that was a couple before Ulrik Munther. That's just a sample from the last half hour of a Head DJ's slot.

Not everyone is guilty of this but it happens far more frequently than it should - have seen things like "TRACK 10" and "deluxe_rip" in the past and no-one seems to be bothered about fixing the presentation at all

ps please also get rid of that monstrous jingle that's like 20 minutes long and has a load of celebs saying their names and stuff

There's a thread in Head DJ+ which allows Heads/Managers/GM team to post if they're have been issues such as song name, duplicate artists and such. Usually it does get dealt with via PM or Skype (depending on how bad it is), but thank you for bringing it up - it helps when the people who can report it aren't online/listening!

It's pretty embarrassing to be honest, particularly from where it's come from. It makes us look unprofessional and is also illegal. We have actually flagged this issue numerous times and had a thread just 2 weeks ago regarding this, as we had an influx of cases. Thus, this shouldn't really be happening, so not sure if messages got lost in translation or something.

It's actually normally the really inexperienced trialists that do it, but people adapt. I will make sure we are on this much quicker and emphasize this to DJs more.

I cannot be on 24/7, so thanks for this and I'll take appropriate action.

Well this has been a problem since I started at the start of 2007 and this was before the peak of HxL. So you really can't link this with us being on life support.

People would have listeneded but are never going to buy songs when they're a volunteer DJ. I doubt there's any DJs solely play bought music. You will all download some at some point.

It's just slack to be honest and looks awful. I would suggest this thread doesn't stay here either because if habbo read this, I don't think they'd keep habbox official?

It's kind of like don't ask, don't tell. If a song is titled correctly and is of 320 kb/s, then we can't tell how they do it. But it's so obvious if you have titles like the above examples and that's what we need to control. It's not the best public thread, you're right, as it does cross legal issues, but it's an important one that trust me I know and have known for a while and we will try to relay this as much as possible to DJs.

Inseriousity.

The amount of PMs I got when I was AGM about song titles and it's not really a problem that goes away completely because new staff come in and they need to adjust and new songs become popular and perhaps in their haste to get what the listeners want they just play it as soon as theyve got it rather than cleaning it up. If they're a head DJ though they should really know better.

If Habbo did that, there wouldn't be any fansites remaining.

When I was Head DJ I have informed to the DJs especially the trialist regarding their song titles. Some of them listened some of them doesn't. You can't expect a trialist to know everything really. Some of them has experience and some doesn't. Head DJs do report everything that goes on with the DJs to the managers and the DJ it self when something occurs. Once you are a Head DJ you will know what happens behind the scenes.

I do agree it looks unprofessional and especially from a Head DJ. I do not know who it was as I barely have the time to listen to the radio now but when you are a Head DJ they should know they have to set a good example to the DJs and not do the opposite. However I am sure they will be dealt with. Although I agree with Grig, the managers cannot be on 24/7 as they do have real life situations as well but they do their very best to maintain the best quality and professionalism as much as possible. You will always see someone who will play a song with the wrong song title regardless what they do sadly.

Then maybe no-one there cares that their pirate radios are exposing themselves unnecessarily and putting the rest of us at risk because they're too lazy to do their jobs right

nobody buys music anymore but that isn't the issue, it's just about displaying a bit of professionalism by properly formatting your songs.

Problem here seems to be lack of effective communication between managers and their staff. Not uncommon here at habbox. Before DJs join the team they should be aware of the rule so that they don't have to suddely go renaming all their songs when they do get a job offer. It should be common practise amongst everyone who downloads music tbh, it just looks ugly and organised when songs arent properly named. or maybe I'm just too anal about my music.

Yup, has been happening since I started as a DJ a longggg time ago. I feel that DJs shouldn't be expected to buy their own music if they can't afford it but I feel as long as it's high quality, sounds like the legal version and has the correct song name then it's fine. I admit I didn't have legal music when I was a DJ because I couldn't afford the mass amount of music that was wanted, might of bought the odd album but I made sure that all song names were up to the right standard. There's no excuse for it and shame on the Head DJ.. shame on you. :P

It's not just looking bad on HabboxLive as a department, it's looking bad on Habbox as a whole due to it being on the main site for all to see.

Being a trialist at the time of posting this, I am disappointed in already seeing Head DJs unaware that their songs are not formatted correctly; they still also don't get the point of the banned words, failing to apologize to HxL. That is a terrible example to their team, and everyone else. They should be a Head DJ if they don't take the time to properly do their job like some regular DJs do. They really should know better.

The DJ responsible for this also just came on and played the exact same song that the last DJ finished with and for the past 5 minutes (and counting) has run "Dubstep Backing Track" but isn't actually talking or anything...

FlyingJesus! What is wrong with just ft. I think feat or ft or with dots at the end are the same. As for the other titles there wrong but not all but most up there

Is it only me, but am I the only one that thinks this thread is immature? If you have a problem with it, speak to a higher up. Making it public doesn't help anyone, and it makes the site as a whole look bad. You must of also been like a hawk, to be staring at different songs to see if there title was correct or not. Some people just don't know.. I understand the concerns, but give me a break. I'm not saying it's alright to pirate music, but what I am saying is, there are huge demands for a wide variety of music, and some people just can't come up with the money to get the music. There are even people asking for songs from the early 2000s (which I'm not saying is a bad thing).. You can't keep saying "Oh I do not have it I'm sorry" until people start tuning out. You try to accommodate your listeners.

The site as a whole IS bad, it's far more immature to pretend that it's a professional organisation and just ignore/hide the very obvious problems. Doesn't really require any hawklike observation to see 7 mistakes almost in a row and to hear the same artist being played over and over, and congratulations on talking about pirating rather than what the actual problem is

Do the @Francis , if you want to say how immature I am. Look how you are acting. You're talking about immature but let's look at this..

I'm not sure what you mean Tom about the same song being played? Usually, the song will be ending on the countdown to the changeover therefore may come up as the next DJ's song. I also looked at song history for this and it only came up once.

The other thing, the DJ was speaking when I tuned in, but regardless of that 5 minutes is too long. Overall, though it would be great if you were tuning in for other shows and pointing this out; like it's been said senior+ staff can't be on all the time.

This issue hasn't been swept under the carpet mind, it has been dealt with if you didn't know (this counts for the songs before too).

I didn't say it was, you've failed to read yet again thanks. You're very hostile for someone with absolutely no idea

No literally the DJ before who was having a fab show played a song to finish off their set and then it switched to the next DJ and she played the exact same song from the beginning so guessing she skipped it back or something :P she did later apologise for the backing track thingy but good to know something's been said. Not sure why it's suddenly my job to be pointing out things that shouldn't be happening at all let alone with this frequency though, I can't be on all the time either lmao

Oh, don't worry I'm not saying it's your job I mean if you or anyone happens to tune in and spot it at any time a PM or whatever could always help. I was more aiming towards you as you created the thread :P.

I suppose it could have skipped back, or decided not to show up on the list. Rather odd either way, but both could be possible.
