For my questions go to the bottom, if you want to read my on-topic rant, continue here :)

Okay, so today I started watching Lost (well started season 3) on DVD. I've had the 6-season boxset for a couple of years but only watched them once.

Anyways, I lent the boxset out to someone knowing they are generally careless with just about everything and against my better judgement but it's kind of a shared owned DVD set between me and my SO so it wasn't really my choice to not lend it out. Anyways, we got the boxset back and some of the cases were pretty badly damaged after just a couple of weeks. But I let it go which was a big deal for me because I'm rather particular about DVDs (ie leaving them out of cases, getting them scratched and so on).

So, I just went to put a disc into my player and I noticed it didn't sit right in the dvd tray. So I twiddle it thinking it was probably just in at a dodgey angle, but still nothing. I took it out to try again and I noticed something fall from the disc onto the dvd tray. It's like smushed old bread or cake or something. Turn the disc over, and I kid you not, there are 14 chunks of smushed food on the back of the disc and one is smeared leaving a massive smudge. So I'm livid by this point. My disc and DVD player are covered in this gross stuff, not to mention the unit and myself...

I check out the other discs in that season case and they are all scratched, covered in this same stuff and what looks like dog hair and are really dusty. I'm going to have to clean out the case and somehow clean the discs without damaging them. To me it looks like the borrower just left all 7 discs out in the simple pile of gross-ness.

How can anyone be so disgusting and inconsiderate? I'm hoping the discs still play...

My questions:

-Do you lend your stuff out?
-Do you expect it to be treated well?
-Have you ever had anything of yours treated badly? Do tell.
-Do you borrow people's stuff?
-Do you take care of anything you borrow?
-Have you ever lent something out and not gotten it back / kept something lent to you?

-Do you lend your stuff out?

Typically yeah, depends what really but usually if I have something someone needs or wnats I'll let them borrow it even though I know sometimes specific people it'll be a hassle getting it back from

-Do you expect it to be treated well?

Yes, inconsiderate not to

-Have you ever had anything of yours treated badly? Do tell.

No, usually it takes a bit of effort getting it back (they never remember, etc)

-Do you borrow people's stuff?

Not that I can think of

-Do you take care of anything you borrow?

If I did I would

-Have you ever lent something out and not gotten it back / kept something lent to you?

No I keep mentioning it until I get it back

I hope it works though, for sake of watching Lost, I'm going to watch it soon (and force buttons; to) but probably watch it on netflix.

I don't really have anything that people want except books and anyone who cares enough about books to want to borrow them ought to be good with taking care of them

Ouch, if I was you I would be fuming with whoever the item was lent to. It's why I'm so reluctant to let people use my things.

-Do you lend your stuff out?

Very rarely to be honest.

-Do you expect it to be treated well?

Of course, I wouldn't want it to get damaged

-Have you ever had anything of yours treated badly? Do tell.

Not that I can remember, but then again I haven't lent too much out.

-Do you borrow people's stuff?

I do but only if they offer.

-Do you take care of anything you borrow?

Yeah because I know how I would feel if something of mine was damaged.

-Have you ever lent something out and not gotten it back / kept something lent to you?

Yeah I lent a game to somebody that I never had back. I wasn't too fussed though as I didn't play it much.

-Do you lend your stuff out?
no one really asks but ive taken hairspray etc to friends because they've asked me to take and never got them back. it's kinda a rule with us that if u leave hair products and spray or alcohol at someone's house then you're not getting it back unless u ask for it lol. idc bout stuff like that. i wouldn't lend out anything i don't want to lose.

Do you expect it to be treated well?
again, wouldn't give out anything id be upset about being destroyed so doesn't really come into my head

-Have you ever had anything of yours treated badly? Do tell.
nope not that i remember so couldn't have been that important.

-Do you borrow people's stuff?
i rarely ask to borrow anything but ive had friends offer me clothes, books etc they think i might like which is usually meant for a short time but i end up keeping them for years lol would give thm back if they ask tho obv

-Do you take care of anything you borrow?
nope, burnt a hole in one friends top (accidently), ripped bits out her book (idk y, we fell out a lot and it was only like the top right of the pages, too scared t do it all), no wonder she's such a bobba to me now. also snapped a bring it on DVD someone let me borrow to impress people, y didnt i just ******* keep the DVD, i love that film!!!

-Have you ever lent something out and not gotten it back / kept something lent to you?
yes buffy tapes i never got back from someone. have kept tops dresses etc people have given me idk like if they don't ask for it back i sometimes forget it's even theirs :/ i borrowed heels from my mum like 3 yrs ago n never gave her back tho lmao always think they're mine until she reminds me...

if i ruined someone's stuff id tell them, try fix it and if didnt work offer to pay for new ones (unless it's like £60 shut up scottish;) did they just give u it like that without explaining there might have been a mess

No I don't lend much out but that's mostly cos I don't really have anything people would want to borrow. I'm also known for not being a pushover who always says yes so people are less likely to ask just in case it's a no. I rarely borrow anything because the main thing I would borrow (dvds/boxsets) I can just watch online without worry of breaking/misplacing disks that aren't mine.

-Do you lend your stuff out?

no one has ever asked me to lend them anything, I guess it's a lot more common in girls with clothes etc
but if someone asked I probably would

-Do you expect it to be treated well?

yeah

-Have you ever had anything of yours treated badly? Do tell.

-Do you take care of anything you borrow?

yeah if I got borrowed something

-Have you ever lent something out and not gotten it back / kept something lent to you?

I have a habit of lending things and never asking for them back so just losing them forever. Every time someone asks to borrow a pen or something I give it them and usually they just pocket it when finished with it which doesnt really bother me and I have come to expect it, often surprised when people are gracious enough to thank me and give it back when they're finished with it. Can't say anything I've given to anybody to borrow has been treated badly. it would piss me off a little if it was something that meant a lot to me and they had actually ruined it but if they just made a mistake dont think I would hold it against them. I gave my friend my thomas harris books to read and he spilt tea on 1 of them but it's still readable and just adds an additional layer of the story to one of my prized possessions. as for people lending stuff to me, I always make sure to take extreme care and return it in the same or better condition.

-Do you lend your stuff out? I don't go out of my way to offer my stuff, if somebody wants something all they have to do is ask.

-Do you expect it to be treated well? I expect it to be returned the way I lent it to them.

-Have you ever had anything of yours treated badly? Do tell. I let my sister borrow my car last week and she backed into the bins and scraped the side. Sure it sucks but the car is a piece of **** anyway.

-Do you borrow people's stuff? As a rule no, I might borrow a clothing item from my brother?

-Do you take care of anything you borrow? Always washed, dried and ironed if applicable upon return.

-Have you ever lent something out and not gotten it back / kept something lent to you? Nothing stands out.

I don't like lending things out for the simple reason that people won't look after it as well as it's not their own property.

-Do you lend your stuff out?
Hardly ever, my sister comes and borrows my stuff sometimes but obviously puts it back when she's done.
-Do you expect it to be treated well?
Of course I would, I'd want it in the same condition it was given out as.
-Have you ever had anything of yours treated badly? Do tell.
Not that I can remember right now. :o
-Do you borrow people's stuff?
Not really, my sister had a box set of FRIENDS that I watched all the time though. They all ended up scratched and stuff, and I really don't understand how they got that bad unfortunately. She bought a new set though, and I'm not going to touch them. :P
-Do you take care of anything you borrow?
As mentioned above, I try to. My sister's boyfriend recently lent me a movie and as soon as I had watched it, back in the case it went. I had/have a bad habit of leaving out the discs thinking I'll fix it up later but I never do, so I'm trying to break that habit.
-Have you ever lent something out and not gotten it back / kept something lent to you?
My sister broke up with her previous boyfriend a while ago, and he left his HIMYM dvds here so I kept them. :P

Very rarely.

-Do you expect it to be treated well?

Yes.

-Have you ever had anything of yours treated badly? Do tell.

-Do you borrow people's stuff?

No.

-Do you take care of anything you borrow?

I don't borrow stuff.

-Have you ever lent something out and not gotten it back / kept something lent to you?

-Do you lend your stuff out?
Yes but if it's returned in a bad condition then I'll never lend anything to that person again.

-Do you expect it to be treated well?
Of course. They wouldn't be happy if I messed up their stuff so why should I be any different

-Have you ever had anything of yours treated badly? Do tell.
Ugh I can't believe I still remember this but some girl borrowed my skipping rope in Year 2 because she had nothing to play with and I felt sorry for her. She brought it back at the end of playtime and it was covered in disgusting mud and stuff and I asked her what happened and she just shrugged and said it wasn't her.. This is the same girl who then stole the same skipping rope a few weeks later and pretended it was hers, but then I'd written my name UNDER the handle so I could prove it was mine and she cried lol

-Do you borrow people's stuff?
Not really. I don't like being in their debt and I don't like asking for help in the first place! The only time I borrow stuff is when I borrow books from a friend, but we have a bit of a routine and we'll lend each other any good books we've read recently.

-Do you take care of anything you borrow?
Yes! I would be mortified if I had to give something back broken or stained or something :(

-Have you ever lent something out and not gotten it back / kept something lent to you?
Yes I had an old friend who lent me Cooking Mama on Nintendo DS but then she moved house to Scotland and I never got a chance to give it back!

I would lend my stuff out but only to family and friends really. I expect it to be treated well and if its damaged they should replace it. My sister wore my belt recently and broke it. She didn't offer to replace it either which just made me so mad because if I borrowed someones stuff and broke it, I would feel so bad. I have lent a few things out and not gotten them back eg a tent and mats when I went camping with someone and also a whole load of singstar games and mics.

-Do you lend your stuff out?
sometimes, but very rarely now. and i don't trust too many people so not so much
-Do you expect it to be treated well?
yeah obviously.
-Have you ever had anything of yours treated badly? Do tell.
somebody borrowed my hunger games book and left it outside so it got drenched in the rain. made her buy me a new one.
-Do you borrow people's stuff?
i don't really like to, but sometimes. it's mainly dvds and i watch them within the day of getting them and give them back the next day.
-Do you take care of anything you borrow?
yes.... it's rude not to. i take care of MY stuff, so if i wasn't gonna take care of others stuff i'd just be an *******.
-Have you ever lent something out and not gotten it back / kept something lent to you?
yeah somebody borrowed a CD and never gave it back, annoying, but lucky i put it on laptop. never kept anything, no

-Do you lend your stuff out? Depends what it is

-Do you expect it to be treated well? Hell yes

-Have you ever had anything of yours treated badly? Do tell. My ipod - returned all scratched up :@

-Do you borrow people's stuff? Sometimes

-Do you take care of anything you borrow? Of course

-Have you ever lent something out and not gotten it back / kept something lent to you? Omg I forgot to return my friend's book back once but she also forgot to return the book I lent to her. We don't really talk anymore and I have no idea where she lives now so it's too late.

im so against lending stuff out it pisses me off lol idk i am very selective about lending people pens at school and always claim i don't have one because 9/10 times they will take it!!! (i do it so i would know...)

i lent out a new nail polish i just bought once like last year cos she asked and i got it back next to empty to the point where i can't actually use it again because there isn't enough and i only actually used it once or twice myself which annoyed me a bit

errrrr in primary i lent out the film New York Minute and didn't get it back for months, when i did there are so many scratches on it that it wouldn't play past the second minute which was totally brilliant.

i don't tend to lend things but if i do i always take care of them and would always thoroughly check everything before returning it to make sure it's fully clean n sorted out

Not really because I remember quite a few years ago I borrowed my ghds out to one of my 'friends' swear she had issues... she tried to return them to me (A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT COLOUR TO WHAT I HAD BORROWED HER) with cellotape wrapped around them cos they had broke???? N HAD THE AUDACITY to say I gave them her like that... NEVER AGAIN!!
