Four people are feared dead after a helicopter crashed in a remote part of Norfolk.

Police said a civilian aircraft with four people on board had crashed in Gillingham, near Beccles, at about 19:30 GMT.

Emergency services remain on scene and a cordon around the site is in place.

It is not yet known what caused the crash but eyewitnesses reported conditions in the area at the time had been "very foggy".

The East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust said it was called at 19:45 to reports of a helicopter crash.

In a statement it said: "EEAST sent a number of resources to the incident including two ambulance officers, three ambulances, two doctors and one rapid response car."

Gillingham is a small village in the south of Norfolk with a population of about 650.

The site is about 45 miles from where four crew members died when a US military helicopter crashed in Norfolk on a training mission in a nature reserve in Cley next the Sea, Norfolk, in January.

There has been a couple of helicopter crashes recently! RIP

Sucks to here another has gone down. Norfolk isn't doing too well on the helicopter front at the moment. We do have a lot from oil rigs though.
