Chinese protestors in Hong Kong make emotional plea to be under British imperial rule again to the former British Governor of the colony

The people of Hong Kong make an emotional plea to the British governor, as they flooded the airport with British Flags and blocked the ex-governors car from leaving. Hong Kong wants to become a British Overseas Territory and are saying all freedoms have vanished since Britain left it in 1997.

We here in the UK should be proud of our nation, and watching this clip should make sure you are

The video was from two days ago.

This was only a smallish group following the former Governor of the colony around, but I know every year there are large protests and demos held where citizens of Hong Kong wave the former British colonial flag of HK around - and that protest goes into the many thousands every single year. It's a great shame that we gave away Hong Kong in 1997 to China, and the people living there didn't want it either. But if anything it makes you proud that despite being prosperous and on the other side of the world, they still want to be under British rule. Quite remarkable really.

I feel sorry for them. The fact that they want to become a British country again is telling us something.

Why would they want to return to British rule.. instead they should protest to be an independent state like Singapore

Not at all, stop spouting rubbish.

It's a high income per capita economy with much of the population highly skilled.
It's broadly English speaking because of it's colonial past.
It's citizens are familiar with Anglo concepts of freedom.
It's citizens have a favourable view of Britain.

Stop trying to look clever by picking over crumbs. They are the facts and they're what would make HK immigrants easy to integrate into the UK.

Picking over crumbs? Is that what it's called when someone questions the baseless generalised statements you make? Your original post says that those protesting are a MINORITY which hardly means every person in hong kong is a brit loving genius. A high income per capita does not mean it's evenly distributed.

Not even a single citation in there. You can't make stupid sweeping generalisations without backing them up, which you haven't. I'm picking over crumbs because you have yet to provide an actual point and instead dodge the question and then play victim when I question the validity of your statements.

On another note, campaigned in Donetsk want to become part of the UK. Long live the empire.

Not sure why you'd vote for foreign rule over self rule in this circumstance but I'm not particularly knowledgeable about Hong Kong.

It's an odd scenario. Essentially Hong Kong prefers us to China as we share the same sort of mindset on how to Govern a country/region while China is deeply corrupt and communist, and just wants to manipulate Hong Kong which is an economic power house with great health care and other systems. It's sort of socio-capitalism (us and Hong Kong) vs. communism. Hong Kong was once ours and has remnants of being part of us and the worst thing in the world for them is being ruled by China. Unfortunately, they border China while we're thousands of miles away.

Undertaker may explain it better as I only have incredibly limited knowledge over Hong Kong :P
