I was on my phone earlier when a push notification from BBC News said 'Plane crashes into the sea off Spain's Canary Islands, reports say' then 10 minutes later they said it was a mistake. The picture below shows the tug boat which was mistaken for a 'plane crash'.

Surely they'd confirm it (the emergency team) rather than instantly reporting it as a crashed plane though? or ATC etc would detect it.

It does to an extent look like a plane but at the same time you can clearly see the barge thing lol might have thought it crashed on it though hmm

Yeah, I guess they just try to be the first to get the news out :P. And yeah it does, and maybe the people who actually saw it as a plane crash didn't see it as close up as in this photographers photo.

yeah i know media *****s would publish wrong info, but i mean the emergency team who reported the incident surely they'd confirm it rather than just 'call it in' without verifying it's actually a plane? then again you probably don't expect it not to be a plane if it looks like that lol.

I can see why they thought it was a plane but they should have got some sort of confirmation before letting the media know.
