Hey everyone!
So I've been browsing through old forums and stuff and came across this thread:
http://www.habboxforum.com/showthread.php?t=768984
Now I'm not trying to kick off a debate to change something that isn't broken but I would like to discuss how they are shown on Habbox. Take a member of the HabboxLive team who may have VIP, the only way to identify them as a DJ is by their usertitle which imo doesn't really give them a "presence" on the forum as such.
The only usergroup where this seems to happen is mods, even if we have VIP, the mod userbar still shows - but I don't get why we should be any different to other staff.
My suggestion would be to do one of two things. Either...
a) Use the department userbars if you are in one department and then the VIP one as well if you have VIP, totalling two userbars. If you are in multiple departments, scrap the department userbar (because otherwise you'd end up with some people having 5 userbars) and just have the generic Habbox Staff userbar as well as VIP where appropriate.
b) Use the user badge things that Laura made and then be able to show all of the different staff groups you were in because they're small and wouldn't take up so much space, a pencil for graphics, a music note for DJs, something like the report button for mods idk

Most other forums don't just have one userbar and instead use multiple ones to make it clear the user's role in the community.
Just a thought, discuss :P

Moderators have userbars on display at all time because their role is forum based and they may need to be contacted by members. This isn't the case for other staff roles which is why they aren't displayed.

Using Laura's design would go against the result of the poll that decided the 'new' VIP bars.
I have no issue with people having their departments shown in userbars, it all depends if it's automatic I guess, if not - someone has a lot of work to do.

oh hello that's my name
I remember userbargate, all the threads and the memory is probably giving Wispur; a heart attack!
Anyway - yes I do prefer the idea of having as many userbars as jobs - most other forums do it, but the way we currently have userbars makes it pretty much impossible - some people at the peak of their Habbox careers would have a whole page's worth!
If this wasn't possible to have all of them, would it be possible if people could choose like the top 5 (maximum) they could display? Or do the thing with just having staff if it's more than one.
But yes I am a fan of having multiple userbars, definitely.

I personally think it looks a lot cleaner and more organised as it is at the moment, otherwise you'd have people potentially having 5 user bars sometimes if not more, and the current userbars don't really suit the layout of having them stacked up. And I agree with Wispur; that unless someone's a moderator (or a general management) then it's not really crucial that it's shown.
However, when people don't have VIP it does show their staff userbar doesn't it? (But just one).

But then Manager's are contacted via the forum for enquiries about their department but they don't get the Dept. Manager badge if they have VIP :P

Bold: Yes, but if that was to be changed I'd assume another poll would be run on how to go about doing it. It was a suggestion of how all user"bars" could be displayed without taking up too much space. I think this was always Laura's intention, but wasn't made clear in the thread
Not bold: Other forums have it so that you get the userbar for every usergroup you're in so I'd imagine there is a priority order or something to have it done idk

Not bold: Manager's should have a Dept Manager badge then surely? If mods and GMs do? And yes, they do show up if they don't have VIP, the VIP currently overrides it

It's not currently possible to let users select which are displayed. The only options we have is to display it how it is currently or display them all at once.

I debated that with someone before when I was forum manager. It wasn't up to me at the time, but I was against it because it looked ugly with the admin bar (A)

It can be enabled. I remember it was once for a brief time.. I'm sure :P. But a lot of people had 3+ and it was disabled again after a very short time due to ultimately just not looking good.

hahaha that was such a fun month of my life!!
You know if you're just a radio DJ you have the DJ staff bar, what departments actually have the dedicated ones? Cos if I remember correctly, it's not all of them

Yes, or even the ones David; designed as they're rectangle and wouldn't look so bad stacked on top of each other, even though they would still take up a lot more space than now.

I don't think it's needed though (as much as I wouldn't mind it), in reality, all you need to do is look up 5 more pixels and see what job roles they have.

There is a userbar for all staff groups as far as I can see. :P

Exactly. :P It's been as it is now for a long time and it's never been a problem before.

Yup.
And how many jobs has someone had at one time? 5? Add those 5 userbars to Habbox VIP for 6, and potentially Habbox Merit, and that's 7 :/

I guess the dark red name (red for SMODS/Admins) makes that stand out anyway. If a mod has VIP, the Moderator userbar doesn't show up does it?
Oh wait just realised you have it (A), so the Moderator userbar is all you have to make it stand out that you're a Forum Moderator, so I'd say that should stay imo.

Which is why I suggested either do the following:
1) If you're in one department, use the department badge, plus any other badges you have like VIP (so max of about 3 badges per person)
2) If you're in multiple departments, use the HABBOX STAFF badge and not the department badges and then VIP etc on top of that.
or
Change the userbars to smaller ones so they can all be displayed alongside eachother

What about the likes of dept managers, should they have the Dept. Manager badge to make them stand out too?

Or just remove the Moderator badge so it's consistent across all forum departments.
Or leave it like it is, because there isn't really much of an issue.

Hence why in my original post I said why should we have it if no one else does, if it is to just make sure people know who we are, you might as well go back to your point of "well just look a few pixels up in the user title"

So you're saying we need to stand out because people need to know who we are? Okay, but then Department Managers should stand out, maybe even senior staff should stand out so that in their private forums, the regular staff know who they are?

Yeah I do think that perhaps the Department Manager userbar could be shown, but not senior staff in other departments because they're often irrelevant to people who aren't part of that department. E.g. do we really need to know who a Head Rare Values Reporter is?

No, why would members need firing if they didn't know who mods are?
I'm stating there is no reason to have senior staff displaying a userbar incase the staff don't know who they are, because staff should already know how their own department is set up and how it works.

No that would require all rank bars being changed. For the changes to take effect a users profile also has to be re-saved, so I would actually have to edit every staff member for the changes to take place.
Not gonna happen.

So you want department managers to show the department manager userbar at all times?
dont personally see anything wrong with people having 5+ userbars
userbars should be displaying for community departments who "may need to be contacted" too. that is after all why they are forced into having their habbo names on forum.
I can see where you're coming from regarding this but I don't think it's really necessary for other departments to have theirs shown. When shown with their VIP, Donator, Merit etc. userbar I think it could look kinda messy.
As some users have already explained, Moderators have them to show that they have some power and responsibility over the forums and that they can be approached for assistance.
As for your point regarding Dept. Managers having to show their userbar, I don't think this is completely necessary either. The users don't necessarily need to know who the Department managers are. Even if someone needed to contact one of the Managers for something, they'd have to go and find out who the manager is anyway, the userbar won't help that.
