Do you think we are slaves to our phones? Everywhere our phones are demanding energy, and are contantly taking our attention from real life.

Tell me what you think.

Yes, my phone holds me captive and makes me do things I don't want to do.

i have to admit i do the thing where i'm constantly on my phone while chatting to someone, it's often so i don't have to look at them directly though and so i don't feel so awkward if i'm running low on conversation material etc.

i wouldnt say im exactly a slave to my phone though, i don't really have many peoples numbers etc and i mainly use it for games / emulators / music / internet etc instead of texting

I use my phone everyday but I'm not a slave to it. I use it to contact those I love and keep myself entertained. It's my slave. I don't use it when I'm with people because to me that is just unsociable and rude. I will whack it out if I need to pretend to be on the phone to get out of an awkward 30minute conversation about the density of certain rocks where I'd otherwise be just nodding and smiling but other than that I respect what people have to say and they get my full undivided attention. Getting your phone out while in middle of a social interaction an disregarding what others have to say is also a dealbreaker for me.

Why would I not use something which makes my life 100 times easier? Can contact anyone, anywhere, and have access to essentially the entirety of all human knowledge (the internet).

It depends on the person but I do think they sometimes can be addictive.

I also sometimes wish you could escape from the internet sometimes. I mean I remember when I was in school you'd go home and if it wasn't nice outside probably go on MSN and so no but now the internet is in our pockets 24/7 and people tend to message you 24/7
