View Full Version : Internet Explorer keeps opening
So basically, my internet explorer keeps opening itself up, once or twice a day of me actively using my laptop. It opens up on it's homepage and seems normal.
I did a malware scan (with malwarebytes anti-malware programme) and the first time there were two things on it, so got rid of them, but it still get popping up, did it again, nothing there. My anti-virus doesnt pick anything up when i scan it (using windows defendor). I just don't know what it could be and it's annoying me?
I'm using windows 7 by the way, fully updated etc. Should I just remove the IE browser and see what happens? Or do you techies have any idea what's going on?

Do you know what I used to have thos issue when I had w7. Although im on win 8.1 now, it would be nice for someone to explain how I could have fixed it (without removing ie) :P

quite nice to know i'm not the only one. I googled it and all the answers was malware on it, but everyone else's also had all the links on whatever homepage you had set going to the same weird place that wanted you to download stuff, mine doesnt.

could possibly might be a scheduled task opening it up
every competent computer user would suggest reinstalling windows though either way

May as well just disable it if you don't use it :P http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/how-to-turn-internet-explorer-off

yeh, i have now. Would still love to know why it was happening, but I may never really find out, as long as it stops, as I hate seeing IE 11s ugly face pop up :p

Do you have an open web browser button on your keyboard maybe?

Nope, Im also not pressing my keyboard when it happens (as far as I'm aware) but I'll keep an eye out just in case.
Thanks.

Strange that no page opens. Have you looked through your programmes list to see if there's anything that looks odd? Or try uninstalling and reinstalling IE (can you uninstall IE on Windows?).

my programme list looks fine, however there's 3 things on my processes that dont have a description (so they may be doing something?);
- atieclxx.exe
- csrss.exe
- winlogin.exe
whatever they are.
though nothing has happened since i turned ie off.

winlogin.exe is a legit program, part of windows and necessary by windows (can be infected though)
csrss.exe is a legit program, again part of OS for client/server run time (can be infected though)
atieclxx.exe is a legit program, it's owned by AMD and part of AMD/ATI drivers (think it's toshiba laptops for the graphics card) can be disabled but yeah no need.

Well whatever the cause turns out to be, I'd refrain from doing any online banking or shopping.
