Indeed it has, selling a massive 185 000 units in it's first weekend, beating the previous record number of 87 000, held by Nintendo's DualScreen handheld. That means that the PSP has had the best console launch weekend ever.
Not exactly a surprise, considering the number of months that shops have been taking pre-orders.
However, the Nintendo DS still reigns the handheld world supreme, selling a whopping 5 million+ consoles worldwide, leaving the PSP lagging behind with 3 million.

Lesbian you can check them out at www.gamesradar.com ;)
Though for DS opening weekend sales figues, you'll have to check a couple of pages back in the DS/GBA news section :)
I can't really see PSP worldwide sales catching up anytime soon Trunks. Japan has the biggest games industry in the world; and over there the DS is the number one handheld.

wow luckey you, my local GAME had sold out a week before they came out!
Wait a minute, you saying that the PSP smashed the release date record on sales, but.. your also saying it wont reach as much sales as the DS, but.. if it beat the amount of sales on the release date shouldnt it beat the amount of sales by over double by christmas
My local Gamestation hasn't sold out yet xD

Bruno, the PSP hasn't sold 2 million in a week, it's been out for months in the US and nearly a year in Japan.
And xEnigma, it may have broken UK release records, but it didn't in other countries. As I've said already, the DS is far more popular in Japan, quite frankly a place that is the epitomy of gaming.

he he actually if you brought shares in sony rather than nintendo you owuld be slightly richer on the release of the handheld due to the fact that the psp
is more popular so sony share buyers got richer than nintendo buyers
i think overall sony will dominate the handheld market and also if you take into consideration when you say it is not as popular in other country take
into consideration ds was released before us aswell :) so sony still rawks your stocks and your socks
My parents bought a new car, and they're throwing in a PSP for £50 x]
hmm i mite get 1 :)
does n e 1 know how much mp3 harddrive it has?

It doesn't have a hard-drive. It uses Memory Stick Duo (Pro).
It comes with a 32mb, which will hold about 6 songs, but you can get a 1gb stick (about 250 songs) for about £40-50 if you shop about.
