Should minors under 18 be on reality tv shows?

So i was reading a time magazine from about September 2013 and i saw an article titled "Debate: Should minors be on Reality tv?" (I will put a link to it below so you can read it). Curious, i read the whole article. And after reading it i can totally agree on this. It first talked about the X-factor 2009 Rachel Crow breakdown, About how rachel crows reputation was probably ruined, but how about X-factors rating were higher then ever that night. After that it talks about The downsides to kids being on reality tv like it exposes private friends and family moments. And it does aswell put alot of pressure on the them (Because those toddlers and tiaras kids are totally prepared to do that at the age of 6 or younger right? -_-). They then mentioned the benefits of minors being on reality tv, like they could start their trust fund at a early age (Honey BooBoo makes $36,000 per season!). And aswell could make more exciting opportunities for them when they get older.

Is X factor a reality tv show? I thought it was a game show? Anyway, I think the minimum age to go on these shows should be 16. I don't see how a pre-adolescent boy is going to make a career from singing when in the next few years his voice is going to change.

Yeah, it's reality TV. I don't have an issue with it, it makes great TV, but I can see why some people would :P

I think it is a good way to make money at a young age and break into the industry. However, some television shows like Honey Boo Boo and Dance Moms are clearly exploitative and take advantage of the kids. I think as long as fair contracts are put into place it shouldn't a problem, and obviously their parent or guardian would have to give consent.
