View Full Version : Habbox Achievements

I was in the middle of writing a different feedback thread and then the release of the achievement system was announced. Finally it is upon us! First thoughts - looks very much like a prototype of the vision that spawned it and certainly needs some jazzing up and new achievement additions. A lot of the achievements are self explanatory but there are a few that really aren't and the text that comes with them is simply "If you feel you earned it, request it".

Rare values are a prime example, as are graphics. Where are we required to have "helped out" rare values, does being staff count? If we post 2 threads over 5 years do we get the "help over a 1+yr period" award?

Aside from it not looking quite as appealing as I and others had perhaps hoped for, it looks like the foundation for something really special. Add proper descriptions, a few more awares and work on phasing out awards and we're golden.

I agree that some need more information, especially Rare Values. I think I prefer Awards since it has images n looks nicer like this, but this leaderboards thing is interesting although confusing :P.

idgi the main post says it starts from today so you can't ask for things you've already achieved but people are getting all of them right now also people keep requesting stuff for MOTM but I don't see that on the list (http://www.habboxforum.com/vbactivity.php?do=allachievements) so the lists in the threads and on the panel type thingy need to be synchronised or whatever the right word is

Some of them are a bit odd also like "Advertise a Competition" do you like just go oh btw go look at comps and now I can claim an achievement

It's a good foundation, better than the old system anyway.

Would be nice to know how activity rankings are determined.
And how points for reputation given/received are determined (It's not simply rep power * number of reps given)
Would be nice to get some pictures for the awards if possible, something for graphics.

But it's half decent, good job :)

Also not sure why the automated ones are on the things you can request since surely being automated kinda stops that being necessary

Personally, I think it should've been delayed. After seeing the comps achievements today, I sent a PM to chris and matt with the following suggestions. As they didn't reply and proceeded, I will post it here.

My main concerns are that:

1. The whole 'sets' thing seems to have been dropped. The easy, medium, hard sets and then the sets of comps, hxl, hxhd, events, forum, habbox (the latter seems to be intact). Adding the difficulty gives motivation for newer users rather than the current awards system of 'oh we'll get that when we get there' attitude which is what I think will happen to it if it goes out as it is. Breaking it down into smaller chunks gives it that edge the awards system doesn't.

2. Fun! The awards system is very formal and the achievements system doesn't have to be. Admittedly, this might be difficult with comps so this might not be as much of an issue with other departments and this point moot. For instance, "take part in a singalong in the spam forum", y'know it'd foster some community spirit and so on.

3. Prizes. The sets idea was that to complete a set you'd get prizes. It was meant to be about attracting new users so adding Habbo prizes would give it a selling point on Habbo.

On the plus side, it got done. That's an achievement all by itself! I'd have personally delayed it, explained the reasoning why in a feedback thread and asked for suggestions from the community for the more informal tasks before releasing it but doing it piece by piece will achieve the same goal in the long term (I just hope its simplicity doesn't put people off before its at a more worthwhile phase hence why I'd have delayed it).

I will also say well done to Chris for taking this (what is a very difficult project) when it's not even his job description. I have no idea of the involvement of the other AGMs but technically it'll have been organised by the community AGM so to see it being led by the staff AGM is, best case scenario, a general management team that isn't restricted by technicalities and works as a team or worst case scenario someone else having to step in where no-one else is willing to lead. Sounds like we're somewhere in the middle here!

That should probably say things that we cant keep track of. We can keep track of MOTM and other things like that so we'll issue the achievements for those. I'll change it in the thread now.

Thanks for the feedback so far! :)

Is there one for habbox weekly event/special promotion thing? I have the award to prove that

Is there going to be one for years on the forum?

Is there going to be one for Posting Stats?

I think you need to pick one or the other, if you're going with achievements get rid of awards and make sure everything is converted over to achievements.

Having two systems for the same thing is just annoying.

First impression of the vbactivity page was ugly though ;l the profile bit is 'ok' at a push it still needs to be modified to look good.

For referrals it says it's automated and that I achieved the 3 referrals (looking at encyclopedia page) but I don't have it on my profile page?

Wispur; so I can request MoTM even if I won it in 2012 right? Can I request the winning comps if I have the PMs of the old managers saying I won?

Im not sure about that. It may be from when the achievement was activated.

You can request the competition you won if you can provide the links to prove it.

Awards will be fazed out eventually.

at least because they haven't delayed it we as users have more of a say in its development and can craft it to our perferences. agree on the sets and fun aspect. currently token rewards are very minimal and it has already been proven that they aren't incentive enough.

hopefully when hxhd achievements are released there will be 1 for getting the most hxhd staff to resign.

Could've been included in its development anyway especially as it seems they struggled for tasks (understandable, it's definitely difficult). Once the novelty of a new idea wears off it needs to have a hook to keep people coming back or to entice new users there. I don't think it currently does, atm it's just awards system with a different name.

Wispur; what do you mean the links? I can provide the links for the comps, but they don't prove I've won.. I can forward the PMs if you want?

I assuming it's automated if you hit it from now but not if you've already achieved it before today therefore we have to request ;P

With rare values, I cannot really think of how they could be added or given out to the public other than for general help, ie posting reports in the reporting forum. Somebody asked if they could be applied to RV staff too, and I would like to think they can be. The reason why they're rather general - although there are specific awards such as the foreign reporting award - is in order to make them flexible. I'm open to suggestions though.

What does the RV department do in terms of interaction with the public other than posting values via the forum? Nothing. So how can I possibly create an award scheme for something that does not exist? In the old days with the RV Help Desk then maybe there were more options, but not today.

The achievement itself is automated but the reward isn't, thats why they need to request them :P

Where departments consulted and asked for suggestions before the lists where made Whisper;

things like "win 5 events, 20 events" how is this possible to verify? people don't screenie threads where they win events or there are no threads based upon it

The departments came up with all of the achievements. The events ones are tracked by staff who keep a log of event winners.

You can also use those threads saying how much rep players got each month since 5 rep = 1 win.

Personally I'd have put RV in a more general 'Habbox' category with the other less community-based depts.
