View Full Version : iOS 7.1.1
Before you keep on reading I wouldn't recommend updating just yet!
I attempted to update my phone to iOS 7.1.1 today and as I was doing it something went wrong and it completely failed. Went into restore mode which means I had to connect it to itunes, restore the software on it and then restore a backup. Luckily I had a recent icloud backup or else I would have been screwed!
Anyone else have this problem? I hope everyone takes regular backups, just in case.
I updated my iPhone to iOS 7.1.1 without any problems :).

My iPhone backs up to iCloud daily, and iPad a few times a week. So I do back up regularly :P. I updated to 7.1.1 without problems too, but doesn't it force you to backup as part of the update process anyway?

It didn't this time, maybe because I already had a recent backup. It's strange because this didn't happen to my friend either but when I looked on the support forum it seemed quite common. Wonder what caused the problem :O

Yeah one of the people I follow on twitter also said they had an issue with the update and that it "bricked" their iPhone. I haven't updated myself yet though - I'll probably won't just yet then as a precaution.

I've had good luck with my phone, so I think I'll risk updating it lmao
Are you sure it kept having power throughout, Mark? I know that can ruin the OS if it runs out of power or it's disconnected part way through
Well after reading this i'll ensure I do a back up now before updating :P
Saying that, i'm already in 7.1.1 lol. Have been for a while? Had no issues

Oh, This update was the worst 1 I've ever had!... I updated but it froze... and I switched it off then back on and it said "Connet to iTunes" so I did... then all of a sudden it wouldn't update just kept failing.. in the end I had to restore back to factory settings luckily I had a back up on iCloud from the previous day.. But yeah going from here make sure you update to iCloud or computer before you update

Odd question but do you still need to connect an iPhone to a computer to update? I have a feeling I'm going to have to help someone update their iPhone...

Nope, can be done 'over the air' (as of iOS 5 I think) :).

Thank Christ, it's the one thing that really concerned me. If it can't update itself it isn't smart. I may be out of the job of updating them :D

Am I alone when I say that this update did my iPad a load of good? My iPad was so slow and unresponsive but as soon as I updated it was like brand new.

The only downside is that It's taken about half a gig more of memory.
