View Full Version : Why

I'm not really understanding why this is being advertised at the bottom of the forum when regardless with a HabboxForum account you still have to view adverts?

the site aint free to host
becoming a member doesn't pay for the upkeep
ads are tailored to your browsing history

I'm more on about how it's misleading to guests thinking they can remove them than anything. Didn't know if there was a reason why it was being done when you can't remove the adverts unless you use Adblock.

that's part of the advert isn't it
Nah. I was able to highlight it separately.
I think when you log in it gets rid of the advert at the bottom of the page
not the top one

It is probably a standard advertising ploy that doesn't apply to Habbox that IMVU are using, rather than Habbox actually lying to guests. Or as above ^

Clearly not logged in, so whats the problem?
yes it says you are not loggged in wat
i played imvu once, it's completely awful.

When viewing as a guest, does it say that on the adverts at the top of the page? If not then there's no problem with it imo.

Because when 50% or more of you are blocking our adverts which REALLY do help our hosting costs then we have had to deploy more adverts. One way of doing that was loading those adverts at the bottom of the forum for guests. If you register or are logged in then that specific advert will disappear.
It's a decision by the owners of Habbox and will most likely stay.

We could turn the forum off all together for guests or have guests only see X amount of threads before they have to join if we wanted to gain more members.

disable the top one for members instead of the bottom and i'll turn adblock off :¬:
Imagine if you were allowed to directly contribute to hosting costs.

And reduce the click rate per month? Yeah good one.
Well actually I am considering having interruptions to forum browsing for adblock users instead. So every 1 in x page requests results in an x second interruption.
i suggest u all delete adblock and be thankful that haabbox doesn't have those super annoying autoplay ads for toilet bleach and stuff that some other sites have.

It will make a come back. A month ago I was secretly logging the accounts of those who used adblock on our sites and found about 60% of users block our advertising.
Our advertising is a massive contributor to our running costs, the donator etc is there to support us when times are a bit dry but realistically 90% of our income is from the advertising. We have one banner, no sounds, or annoying crap just one banner. That one banner keeps us going.
So, yeah if I need to take extreme measures to ensure we have sufficient income coming in I will and it won't be up to the members to decide otherwise.
Things that have been considered is placing blocking members into restricted usergroups, interrupting page loads. Scaling advertising based upon the monthly earnings.
Since the introduction of the extra non-member advertising 2 months ago we have been hitting our monthly target.

I got adblock because 90% of the Habbox community are immature and spam images 200x like lemons; I don't actually know how to remove Habbox from the filter...

Are you using Firefox or Google Chrome? This will most likely still apply:
Chrome:
To disable adblock on Chrome for Habbox you first need to go into your adblock options/settings. After doing click the 'Whitelisted domains' tab and, in the first box, add the following sites (one after another):
www.habbox.com
www.habboxforum.com
www.habboxwiki.com
www.habboxlive.com
An alternate way of doing this would be to click the adblock icon with your middle mouse button when browsing one of our sites and untick the option "Enabled for this site".
Firefox:
To disable adblock on Firefox for Habbox you first need to click Tools (in the menu bar), hover over Adblock and click 'Filter Preferences'. Then when the pop up opens use the shortcut Ctrl+R (or Cmd+R on Mac) to open the advanced section. Then click 'Add filter' and add the following rules in seperately:
@@||habbox.com^$document
@@||habboxforum.com^$document
@@||habboxwiki.com^$document
@@||habboxlive.com^$document
An alternate way of doing this would be to click Tools, Hover over Adblock Plus and click 'Disable on [habbox site URL]'.

*Well gl getting any new members who come to the site, they'll see they can't access it without turning off adblock and then leave and never return 99 percent of the time. Sure you'll get some of the current members turn it off, but you are never going to see large user increases if you block all access to the site for anyone using adblock.
*That's if you re-enable stop.habbox.com.
frankly I really don't understand why people can't just disable ads for habbox. it really does not harm your experience

FYI on 90% of pageloads my ads don't display despite the fact I don't even have adblock installed. Seems isolated to Habbox for some reason.

I have disabled adblock on forum, I won't and don't plan to do it for;
Habbox.com
HabboxLive.com
HabboxWiki
Mainly as I don't use them, HabboxWiki is pretty pointless, should be merged into Habbox.com (Also notice that Wikipedia doesn't even have ads, It has "contributors")
HabboxLive should of been merged into Habbox.com, Although the new site is better just looks like the black market site's radio version lol

I still think that anyone who's blocking ads is rather selfish but it's nice to see that some members have now turned them on! I barely even notice them now. I didn't know that the whole guest thing was a feature but I wouldn't even NOTICE if there was one at the bottom so I doubt it'd stop them signing up!

idgi even on a small screen the adverts don't take up like any space at all, no need to block them
Also dunno if it still does it but for a while I was using Google DNS because I was having some problems and whenever I had it connected through that I got the AdBlock message thingy on the forum which was odd

This is a complex question because the server Habbox runs on also runs other stuff, one of the big costs that Habbox doesn't really have a need for would be the cpanel license which on its own costs in the region of $400 per year.

understand if people have it up to block other website's ads, but the people who seem to use it specifically to give the middle finger to habbox is really frustrating. we are all here on this site because it's either entertaining and useful, we would all be a little worse off without it and to continually disadvantage habbox just to "stick it 2 da man" is pathetic.

I don't understand why people don't disable adblock for the sites they use almost daily... if it wasn't for ads you wouldn't be able to use those sites. What is so hard to understand?
Anyway, even if you block users from accessing the site with adblock all they'll do is disable it, come on here and complain and ***** and post a load of ****e, giving HxF more pageviews and more ad revenue. It's genius.
I always get the ad at the top. I feel well special that I don't have any of this adblock stuff :P

Exactly. So people who get Indian Dating.com and complain about it... we pretty much know your search history.
