This is more aimed at business, but might certainly be useful for some of those who live in areas prone to wildfires or serious flooding

That's a really poor experiment... The fire was tiny compared to proper destructive fires you get in Australia, America etc. If they put the IO Safe in a large, open top metal ship container with padded, flammable walls and places lots of large, wooden items, carpet and generally anything that can create immense heat similar to what you get in the sort of environment it is being targetted at the test would be impressive - but a fire that probably won't even be as hot as a barbecue fire really is not that impressive.

Also, considering how it has a limited life seeing as once you lock it up you have to rip it open the best option is to simply buy a normal, heavyweight safe which can be open and closed and probably not get lost in the rubble.

What do you mean lock it up? It comes as one unit.

I thought he put the MacBook HDD inside it. Watched it again and realised the problem with that (first it's a huge HDD for the MacBook and secondly why would you rip open a laptop/PC to take the HDD out and put it in?) :P

The experiment is still pretty awful and proper fireproof and waterproof safes which can fit entire laptops and computers in might be more cost effective - especially when they can survive earthquakes, huge forest fires (not firepit fires) etc. The experiment really doesn't show off it's capability.

EDIT:

This test is quite good by Run Around Tech. A car fire is far more damaging than a small fire pit, so it seems strange and almost a pity that ebuyer didn't consider this sort of test which involves far hotter temperatures and even a fire hose test when they put out the inside of the car with.

Well the budget would have been a lot tighter, the salesman wouldn't exactly be able to carry a skip around in his car. It is more for illustration, but it's certainly more than a hdd could survive without protection. They also give minimum specifications on their website for exactly how long the device is guaranteed to last in fires of up to a specific temperature.

The problem with a fireproof safe is that you need to retrieve the item whenever you wish to use it, this is always plugged into your PC like a regular external hdd.
