Basically,
When I download a program such as VLC or anything for that matter I always get the plug in icon on my desktop (the big white thing in the right hand corner)
Does anyone know how to ride the icon / remove it so it does not clear my desktop.
Whenever I click "Eject" it always removes the program I downloaded.

Dragging it to the bin on the dock should remove it. Make sure you have moved the app to the app folder before doing it though. :P

You're not using your Mac properly.
You download a .dmg file and mount it as a drive (which is what that white icon is), you then open it and see the Application (in this case, VLC). You need to drag the application from that disk to your Applications folder to install it on your Mac. You can then drag the white drive to the trash to eject it, and delete the file from your Downloads folder.

Sorted now! Thanks :)
Yeah I was going to say drag the application into your applications folder then eject the white drive.
