But in a new blog post today, producer Ryan Vaughn, in an attempt to share some smaller details about the game, revealed that pool building and toddlers won't be in the game.

"While it’s not possible for us to include every single feature and piece of content we added to The Sims 3 over the last 5 years, we’ve added features that you’ve asked for and that offer a whole new intuitive and fun way to build," Vaughn said. "These are features like Wall Height Adjustment, Dynamic Foundation Sizing, and Smart Windows!

"And though pool building won’t be available in September, we do have a new Fountain Tool so you can create sophisticated landscapes," he added.

And then there's the part where he revealed that toddlers won't be an age range for your Sims families. "As for ages, we have babies, children, teens, young adults, adults and elders," he said. Over on Twitter, fellow producer Graham Nardone clarified that Babies and Toddlers were not combined. "We know they're distinctly different and didn't want to shoehorn them in," he said.

It's unclear why exactly Maxis chose not to include these two features, but fan reaction towards the news has not been good. In fact, several people have expressed their disappointment through various social media channels, even threatening to cancel their pre-order.

Though it's disappointing that these won't be included in the base game, it's quite likely they'll be added in a future expansion pack -- this is The Sims after all.

I can't understand what goes through their heads sometimes. As per usual just trying to ramp up profit by releasing more expansion packs than actually focusing on a decent base game? The fountains thing sounds decent though but i never liked sims 3 so sims 4 has got to impress me a hell of a lot otherwise sims 2 forever.

Hardly the end of the world. Toddlers only have three purposes anyway. Teaching them to walk/talk/use the potty.

And I'm not sure I've ever been able to get a household to the stage where they can afford a pool since it takes so long.

I bet this is EA's doing, they destroy everything

I wish the sims could be published by somebody else because it's one of my all time favourite games

although disappointing, I'm probably going to buy it any way

I've never bought any expansion packs before though because there's just too ******* many

I'm sure it never took me that long to get a pool (without cheats)?

Not the end of the world I guess, I liked having toddlers just on the transition to pick traits if you treated them well. The pools I don't use often, but it means expansion of the lifeguard profession won't be there - just probably the beach.

Well I like to build a nice 3-story mansion with my single person. I guess you could just build a pool with your first pay check if you really wanted too, I suppose it depends on how you play the game :P I never got round to pools really.

Why would they remove them? :S Are they implying that the pools will be available at a later date?

What 4real I usually stick to 1 floor because you don't need any more except for aesthetics but pageup/pagedown or the buttons over by the speed options and stuff will do it

Not bothered about toddlers they're well annoying anyway but pools are a pretty major part of The Sims and always have been, plus fountains aren't new you can make all sorts of shaped fountains in Sims 3 ;|||||||

not overly bothered about the pool, i never really used them tbh. It would still have been nice to have it there as an option though

I don't know what I'm going to do when The Sims 4 comes out. I got every expansion pack for the Sims 3 and I am quite happy with it. I might just get the base game for the Sims 4 then when I get a computer with more storage space I will consider getting expansion packs.

I'm a bit annoyed that they removed the pools. Some lots I build include pools and wouldn't look right without them. I don't mind that the toddlers were removed, I always found that they were really annoying, the baby stage is enough.

How are you meant to drown your sims if you don't have a pool?

I didn't know how to do it in sims 2 either (never knew you could in sims 2) and I've never played sims 1. I've seen some sort of floor tool or something and it never works :S.

Oh, I can't remember if it's Sims 2 as it wouldn't work on my laptop. There should be your wall button, to put them up full/half/none and it should be around there somewhere :P.

Simple fix for this. Just don't buy it on pre-order and hope they add them for free. If they can't be bothered to release a complete game, or a game which should have toddlers and pools as basic, foundational features, then the game is not worth the price. They've been in the base game for the last 2 iterations, and pools since The Sims.

I'm amazed people still buy games from EA on pre-order, especially anything from the Sims franchise. Just take a look at The Sims 3 and SimCity - both awful games which had game crippling issues or lacklustre features.

Also. I can't believe EA are playing the same-sex marriage bandwagon to get people to know about The Sims 4. Sims have been able to have same-sex marriages since the original. They've also been allowed to adopt (incl. single Sims, not just couples), have mixed-raced relationships and live without any sort of legal system or social welfare state because they live in a perfect utopia.

i found it weird how people seem really bothered by this, pools are rubbish and toddlers are annoying
