Okay so i've noticed for the last 3-4 weeks I have not been working to my contracted 16 hours but actually under it. How can I go about sorting this out without sounding too rude to my employer?
just say it to them
its not rude even though you may think it is
just make sure there i no clause in your contract which means they cant reduce your hours during slow trading periods
Yeah just mention it to them. Our company in particular likes it if you're direct. Nothing that can't be sorted out.

You're not in the wrong by pointing something out, don't worry :P
Do you remember reading anything about reducing the hours of work in your contract? What kind of job is it? As said above you should definitely mention it to someone.

Take a look at your contract. If it explicitly states you have a minimum of 16 hours to fulfil each week then they are in a breach of contract for not giving your the hours. It may just be they've not noticed and the best course of action to start off with is to go directly up to your manager and state you're not getting the 16 hours stated in your contract. If they refuse then you have loads of options.

Yeah bring it up ASAP.
Contract award rates are generally a little lower than casual/part time so you should ask for the contract hours or to be moved over to the different award if it's better ASAP. It won't come across as rude, it's just an admin thing.

After speaking to someone at my store and being told to go in earlier for one day, next weekend i've actually been given LESS hours!

Dude, You need to tell them "Look you gave me a 16 hour contract, so according to the government website you have to honour me these hours or it's a breach of my contract and I will take action against any missing pay i've incurred if you don't resolve this issue"
Like Kardan said... If your contract says that you are on a 16HR contract then they have to honour it!
