View Full Version : The HxF Mole 3 - Task 12: Safe Cracker
Kardan
16-08-2014, 08:00 PM
In front of you is a safe, and inside is 20 days of group VIP. On the safe, are 25 panels, and each one of these panels must be opened for the safe to open.
To open a panel, you must enter a number and a letter. Each panel has a unique number and a unique letter. The numbers go from 1 to 25, and the letters go from A to Y.
The highest number is 25 and the highest letter is Y.
Diagonal lines refer to the main diagonal lines going from top left to bottom right, and bottom left to top right.
Each panel that is opened may give you a clue to open further panels.
Each time an incorrect number or letter is entered for a panel, a day of group VIP will be lost.
To enter a number and a letter for a panel, simply post the panel number, and the number and letter you wish to enter.
The panels are numbered as expected, left to right, top to bottom, with panel number 1 in the top left, panel 5 in the top right and panel 25 in the bottom right.
So, an example would be:
Panel 3: 23K
To start you off, the code for the first panel has already been entered, it was 1A.
Good Luck.

so panel 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 are the top to bottom right column. each cell contains highest numbers and highest letters in reverse order (so 25Y, 24X, etc)?

it's 4e, 4i, 4u
9e, 9i, 9u

omg are you guys just taking lucky guesses or am I not connecting the clues here
L - can't be in it as the top cell is A plus used already
A - yes
C - yes
I - can't be in it as vowels are elsewhere
G - yes
O - can't be in it as vowels are elsewhere
L - yes
E - can't be in it as vowels are elsewhere
B - yes
so top to bottom the left column is A C G L B
we know that the bottom left number is a multiple of 3 and a multiple of 5o the bottom left panel (21) is 15B and that the third row's letter matches it's number so panel 11 is 7G

since row three is letter = number and from 7g we know that letters are alphabetical across a row only H can fit in between G and I so panel 12 is 8H
CrazyLemurs
16-08-2014, 09:01 PM

E comes before L
vowel in row L is O
vowel in row C is E

- - - Updated - - -
since rows 1 to 4 have consonants in column 5 that clue's on about row 5 so row 5 consonants are in the first half

- - - Updated - - -
which basically just confirms top row is one (2, 3, 13)
leaving 5,7,11,17,19,23,29
- - - Updated - - -
row 2 currently has 0 primes
row 3 currently has 1 prime (7) leaving 5,11,17,19,23,29
row 4 currently has 0 primes
row 5 currently no1 cares
3 colums have only 1 prime
5 and 2 have on prime
colum 2 because 2 3 and 13 are all prime the others in that colum have to be non prime so ony more column has only 1 prime
scottish
16-08-2014, 09:33 PM

3 columns have just 1 prime number
2 columns have exactly 3 prime numbers
column 5 has just 1
column2 MUST have just 1, as panel 7 is an even number (not prime), which would leave it two possible spots for a prime
therefore panel 17 is not prime
scottish
16-08-2014, 09:36 PM
we already know 17 aint a prime as its 6 12 or 18
Circadia
