I got my offer from Exeter to do it but I started umming and ahhing when I thought I'd failed at that interview. After then I kinda started looking into journalism jobs and really reconsidered my life a lot (a lot of people say going straight into a PGCE after a degree and school isn't the best idea and you should get "life experience").
In erm, April, when I was finishing up my diss and stuff I applied to two jobs more in what I love doing - I like teaching and I wanted to do it since I was 7, but I LOVE digital marketing, journalism, copywriting, graphic design, website management & social media management which I discovered during my time at Uni (and on here tbf) - which I never ever even CONSIDERED I could make a career out of.
Anyway I applied to these jobs, one digital marketing and one sub-editor (page design) at a newspaper (biggest one in Wales). Got turned down for first (which I wanted more, a lot more money), but got offered interview, trial and a full-time job within a week. Handed in diss on 9th May, started work on 14th!
I always thought I'd experience it for 3 months, see if I liked it and then I could decide whether to turn down Exeter or not - I didn't let them know until a couple of weeks ago. I really love my job though, and although being a student is a hell of a lot less stressful I wouldn't give it up for the world.
Maybe I'll go back into teaching at some point, it's not like I've ruined any opportunity for that, but for now I just think I'm really good at my job and I like it so I might as well stick with it!

TL;DR: Yes. I turned it down 'cos I got a job.

I haven't applied for a PGCE cos of the same thing (life experience) so was just curious. Good luck though. My auntie does SEO/social media management and she enjoys it too.

I really noticed in my interviews (I went to two) that a lot of the applicants are older and they had other jobs before. Another reason I turned against it was because I'm only JUST 21 and I look really young for my age - I don't think students would even respect me until I'm older anyway.
At the moment I've gone like super creative at work (I had so much fun designing this african pattern thing I'll post tomorrow once it's published) but I'd miss the creative graphic design element if I didn't have my other job too, so I think it's for the best. It's never too late to do a PGCE though, there was a woman who I think said was 45 in one of my interviews, and she was SO pro at it!

Nope. I decided to teach for one year and realised very early on that it wasn't for me.. but I still had to fulfil my one year contract.

I never wanted to be a teacher that was just experience gathering which turned out to be quite successful because I was observed teaching and put on to bigger and better things :P Not to worry anyway I've pretty much been in constant employment since I started working. I've just been promoted actually.. a job of which I start September 1st.

I'm only JUST 21 and I look really young for my age - I don't think students would even respect me until I'm older anyway.
Well despite that I said I was 21 on my mole application (ye still don't know why), I'm actually 22 but I still think the above applies to me too. I have a cousin who got into teaching and she couldn't handle it and a large part of that was because the kids didn't respect her as she looked young therefore easy target. I wouldn't want to go into a teaching career and be one of those people that quit. If I wanted to go into teaching, it'd be when I felt ready and I think that would come when looking older and more of an authority figure after building a career and confidence elsewhere.
My cousin taught primary Year 3 so even at that young age they're capable of wearing people down with the pressure and stress. I hope this don't put you off your PGCE, I don't think it should be a rule that you must be 30+ but I think I'd be more comfortable with a few years in a career away from the classroom.

Back off to college tomorrow after a 5 year gap!
Scary stuff :P
Well in the end couldn't do an access course but I'm doing 2 years - Level 3 extended diploma in health and social care with 100 hour placement & GCSE Biology. I got accepted today and start next Wednesday. Now to email sixth form and tell them i am not to be returning. I've already seen tweets from students telling our head the same and him replying 'oh thats a shame' so I feel a bit bad haha

lawrawrrr; Inseriousity.; looking young's got nothing to do with whether or not you're good at teaching. I come from a house full of teachers (grandma, mum and an old lodger/family friend) who taught at all different ages, it's the way you act and how confident you appear rather than looking young.
My mum started teaching at 21 and has never really had any trouble. My grandma didn't start until she was 37 and I don't know that much about it, but she stuck at it until she retired and didn't seem to be permanently damaged by it. Our lodger just crashed and burned though. Left a Cambridge college at 21 with a first (or like the top bracket whatever idk about universities yet) and went straight into teaching. Then had a nervous breakdown three years later.
It seems to me it just depends what kind of person you are. You're either suited for the job or you're not.
O/T: no, got another year of sixth form ahead of me. And then the job hunting can really start (A)

yes but my point was that if you don't feel that confident to teach, if you got some life experience and grew out of teenage insecurities you could build confidence and return to it at a later time if you still have that passion to do it. if you never got that confidence then you could just focus on the career you've got

I wouldn't describe myself as having much confidence (especially in front of strangers), but I'm under the impression that one of the things I'm going to get/improve upon on my PGCE course is confidence.
I want to be a midwife but I'm kind of getting put off with even that and leaning to adult nursing. I guess I'll know which I prefer during placement

true, and I guess if you have one bad experience early on that knocks your confidence so more things go wrong. might be easier to get back up if you have a bit more life experience and you'll have practiced thinking on your feet
children are like wolves, they can smell your fear :(

I've been teaching kids for erm 5 years now, only really seriously for the last 2, I found it odd myself being close to those in age, and I know when I was at school I didn't respect the fresh-out-of-university teachers as much as the older ones :/

I was the opposite. Found I could connect more with the younger ones as the older ones were just trying to force authority over me all the time.
