View Full Version : Do you say thank you to bus drivers/shop keepers/drivers etc
yeah do you say thanks when you get off a bus or buy things from shops or when crossing a road when a driver stops for you etc
i lit have to always shout thank you when i get off the bus like soooo many people dont do it
maybe 1/15 people say thanks where i live but idg how omg when i get in at the front doors i always scan my oyster n say thanks then when i get out in the further back doors i always shout thanks again to the driver
and when i buy things from shops i haveee to say thanks & have a good day otherwise i think am being really rude
oh and do you say thanks to car drivers like at zebra crossings!! you know when you put your hand out to say thanks
my friends refuse to do it because i do or because they say they have to stop so dont need to say thanks ;l my other friend argues that because i do it she doesnt have to because it doesnt matter but am like whattt all you have to do is say thanks and smile and keep walking omg
some people get really shy i know like my friends will neverrrr say it idk but they refuse to speak to people everrrr so they wont go up to people and ask the time or ask if so and so is okay idk they just refuse to speak to people lmao

Always, although I say thank you in Welsh (diolch) as all the bus drivers are Welsh!

I do, personally - though this area isn't known for how polite it really isn't and there are very few people who have accumulated that level of manners.

eh most of the time. sometimes im moody on bus cos it's early and I have both headphones in just hating everything
at shops always.
I always say thanks like I have a 20% card so have to top it up then the bus driver has to actually put the money on and do the fare thing so I always say thanks then I always say thank you when I get off :) It would be rude to walk straight off the bus past the bus driver
yeah i always say it and everyone i know does too!

do you only have 1 door in your buses??
we have a door you go in and a door you go out
and because the door to go out is like middle of the bus and drivers at the front no one says thank you because it means shouting it to be heard
noneeeee of my friends do it so i just shout thanks and theyre like what are you doing??? hello what do you think im doing ;l
sometimes the bus drivers say thanks back though
can get some really nice ones!¬! today i got the bus to town and had the same driver on the way back and he was like hi again!! i was like hi!!! and we just had a convo lmao

If a bus driver is rude to be because I have a £5 note or something along those lines then I generally wouldn't say anything as I leave the bus. I do the same in shops, if someone is nice and polite to me then I say thank you and wish them a nice day, if they're rude or abrupt then I can be just the same as them.

in london you arent even allowed to pay with money anymore you need to have like a travel card or bus pass or something of a sort so they usually cant be rude because no one even speaks to them lmao just shows them their card

I've only ever been on the bus in London a handful of times and you're correct. But where I live, just outside London you can still pay with real money (haha) and if you have anything larger than change you generally get the dirtiest looks and comments from the bus drivers which is just not needed.

ohgod yeah whenever i lost my oyster i used to pay with money but if they didnt have change they wouldnt let me on the bus but its like hello i am trying to get somewhere??? sometimes they were nice n let me on for free though and would give me a special ticket where ur supposed to pay them back and they take ur details and stuff but they dont ask for ur details and pretend you gave it to them so youre allowed on the bus

Yah that really annoys me. It's not my job to provide the bus company with the correct change, it's down to them to give me right change if I don't have the right money. If they can't provide the change then they shouldn't kick you off of the bus, they should let you on for free, it's their issue that they need to address and not yours as you're trying to pay. That's proper annoying. I feel your pain. I'm glad I literally never get the bus #woo

would never get that here! I asked to top up my card with £4.50 and he was like why exactly 4.50 and I was like its my bus fare duhhhh... urgh

i say thanks to bus drivers only when i run to catch the bus and the driver actually waited for me
other than that, i do say thank you to shopkeepers when purchasing things/food or wtv so yerp
only one of my friends thanks drivers when they stop for him aha bcos all my friends sux :P
yes once i get a ticket from them and turn and say thanks when im getting off. yes to shop keepers since it's super rude to collect a receipt from them and just walk off? and yes at zebra crossings or generally people who stop for me to cross as a pedestrian. don't like being rushed across a road though.
i hate people who say thank you when there's nothing to thank for though like a few days ago my neighbour got a package for me and i went to get it, said thanks, and they said thank you back? wat? doesnt make sense.
I always say thankyou you shop keepers and people who serve me. With bus drivers, if they are nice and friendly then yeah I'll say thanks and maybe even start conversation with them. But if they are rude bus drivers who just don't want to be there then I just scan my smartrider and leave. Also if the bus is packed and there's so many people waiting to get off behind me, i'll just get off.
!:random!:!

Maybe they was saying thank you for your good manners OR they was being like thanks for finally picking it up, its ugly
I always say thank you, it's just polite so I don't know why you wouldn't.

Sometimes if the bus is really full and I'm being pushed off by the people behind me I don't get a chance and then I feel rly guilty. And I won't say thanks (when leaving, I will already have thanked them for the ticket) if I'm getting off the side doors because idek if they can here me and it looks weird.
Always say thanks when buying something, even if they've been rude as hell.
And I always raise my hand and do the weird fast shuffle across the road when a driver stops for me. Can't help it :(

i say thanks to shop keepers
buses i don't say thanks because i live in a busy area in north london so buses i get on have 2 doors and it's always very loud so any attempt to say thanks won't be heard plus you don't pay with money when you get on buses now you have to use your oyster card so u don't need to say thanks when you get on or anything really

Yeah, I thought that was standard to be honest. We are a bunch of polite *******s, high five!!
Always to shop keepers and things like that, im actually over polite irl
I usually do on buses but where I live the bus drivers are incredibly rude so if I do say thank you to them, I'm as sarcastic as I possibly can be.

I say thank you in a shop/ on the bus every time without fail. Even if the shop assistant is rude to me, I can't bring myself not to say thank you! Silly, I know :P
