Sorry if this is the wrong area to post in for this, I wasn't sure!

I was walking home from work and I happened to notice a rabbit on the side of the road, it looked pretty still, so I thought it was dead! I went to have a closer look and notice it's nose was bleeding and was breathing very heavily. Being such an animal lover, I couldn't bare the thought of it staying out over night, and probably get ran over, so I took it home. I've tried to feed it some carrots and water, but it won't have any of it. It's very still, it's eyes are really red, it's nose is bleeding with whitey coloured puss stuff, and breathing very heavily, as if it almost can't breath.

I've tried to google some infortmation, see if I can help it, but it appears to have no answers! My mum's decided if it lives over night we take it to the vets, but would they just put it down rather than try to save it?

(Since writing this it's jumped out it's box and ran into a wall (Most it's moved since I've been with it), and really hurt it's nose. It's paws kept brushing it's face and it was breathing like it was about to have a heart attack)

Please help. Does anyone know what it could be? How could I make it better?

I took some photo's to show, if it helps!!

Aww it looks like a pet rabbit, rather than a wild rabbit. I live in the country so am always seeing dead rabbits in the road. I'm really not sure whats happened to it but I think your best bet is a vet. They will do everything they can, but if they think its suffering or have no chance they'll put it to sleep, its always a last resort

I can't stand the thought of it being put to sleep. :'( I would keep it and get it well again, but I have two dogs, so it won't have a minute from them. I've got it in my room at the minute and it's hopping around, but it keeps running into things and really hurting it's nose, then looks up and just stays like that for a while. :s

Try to feed it something softer rather than carrots? Maybe lettuce or something.
If its got a poorly face/mouth it might not want to try eat hard carrots?
But ye, take it to a vet.

aw that's so upsetting :( it might be blind if the eyes look sore and it's running into walls

yeah i'd suggest what tom's said and maybe try and clean the nose with a damp cloth or something? not sure

It won't even look at the carrots, so I don't know if it'll eat any lettuce :(

I also thought it might be blind, because it's eyes are really, really red and pretty shut, only a little opened. It won't even let me touch it now, so I won't be able to clean it's nose. I'd be too scared too, incase it's hurting. :(

look up nearby animal shelters on your computer? and try to bring it in tomorrow. preferrably a no kill shelter if you have one nearby if you're worried about it being euthanized

As long as it is not suffering as others have said bring it to the vet. The pictures makes me upset :( Maybe warm compress (not too warm) can help...not sure :(

keep it hydrated and out of the sun. unless it's dead by now. it looks and sounds like pasteurellosis.

I didn't want to touch it around it's nose area. It looked sore. :(

I kept it indoors over night and window opened with carrots and water, but it never touched any of it. What does 'pasteurellosis' mean? :s lol.

Could've had a run in with a fox or a rat. To be honest if you'd taken it to the vet they'd have kept it overnight to watch it and it would've died there instead.

a respiratory infection that's quite common in rabbits and can be cured with antibiotics. was it bleeding from anywhere else?

rip

I simply could not have took ot to the vet. I was on foot, it was 2am and it's in the next town which you need to drive too, it would have been closed.Otherwise I would have.

What a sad situation you found yourself in.
But it shows that people do care, as you went out your way to look after it.
At least it was in a warm loving place when it passed away

Buried it in the woodlands where I found it. Least it's in a better place now. :)

what a poor wee baby. I hope it wasn't a pet animal thrown out or hurt by humans :(
