I was home alone for about a week until this Wednesday due to my mum going on holiday. On the monday morning I woke up and I heard some noise/a tv playing in my mum's room - I assumed my sisters had come home from my nan's to get ready for school, but when I went downstairs to find them the door was still locked/chained/bolted + they weren't home. The remote was in exactly the same place it had been the night before & there is no chance the dog could have pressed it NOR did I leave it on or even use it.

So is there any logical/scientific/technical explanation as to why the TV randomly switched itself on sometime after 2am? It's never happened to me before and I am 99pcnt positive I am not a sleep walker either... so I'd really like to know if a TV can ''turn itself on'' for any reason whatsoever?

-rep if you mention ghosts because i dont believe in them and i want a sensible answer...
+rep if u can give me a good answer.

Check buttons in case one of them is stick a little - particularly power.

Our tv sometimes restarts itself as the system we use has to reboot therefore randomly turning itself off and on again. You might just have a faulty tv that wasn't turned off properly or a power surge occured or something. Did you fall asleep on the remote upstairs and your remote happens to be really powerful?

If they have Freeview I know that's been recently updated so it might have done it automatically.

Not sure if you can schedule when the TV goes on and off, also if something's set for a reminder it could have come on perhaps x.

Yh you might have pressed the button too hard and it 'decompressed' itself slowly or sth, triggering the tv

Otherwise it might be faulty check the tv settings does it hv a timer or sthh

Not quite sure but a similar thing happened to me last night, I turned the TV off but left the Virgin box on because the remote was too far away. I laid down on the sofa on my phone for about 30 minutes and then I went to bed, as I got in bed I heard talking downstairs and I thought 'oh no someone just broke in', I went downstairs and the surround sound had turned itself on and was playing the audio from the Virgin box, even though the TV wasn't on. Was a bit creepy at first and I still don't know what caused it but I just turned everything off and went back to bed.
