Apparently from today, you no longer have to display your car tax disc in your windscreen.
Have you taken yours out yet?
What do you have to do before you're eligible to get rid of it..?

My dad hasn't taken his out yet. If you have one that's still valid then you're still taxed until it ends (and don't need to display it as far as I know).
If not you need to tax it online or in a Post Office. However, due to a lot of people doing it online today the website is very overloaded :P.

I haven't taken mine out. Just make sure tax is valid.. doing it online literally takes 5 minutes.

I haven't and probably wont until it runs out.
The issue with their website isn't due to people buying it online, it's due to the amount of people viewing the information on it.
It's been purchasable online for years and I imagine most people do use their website to purchase it (older generation will probably use post office, but younger people online).

I'm just going to leave mine on until it expires. I'm not really that bothered by it.

The best thing about this is that my Ford tax disc holder is now going to be a parking permit holder... when I pluck up the courage to remove it :P

So, because my car is taxed for another couple of months still, I can just take it off without doing anything? I don't have to notify anyone or anything like that?

Not noticed anyone taking their tax disc off their car, I would be too scared to do it.

Why :P
They've not used physical tax discs in a while as it's been recognized by ANPR for years hasn't it.

You're not 'risking it', as of October 1 2014 you no longer have to display a paper tax disc on your windscreen.
There is no and if or buts, that's it. If your task disc expires tomorrow you don't need to display it, if your tax disc expires in March you don't need to display it, if your tax disc expires on the 30th of September next year you don't need to display it.
Obviously I'd suggest keeping it in safe place until it expires, don't go binning it incase something messed up happens and for some reason your car isn't recognized as taxed.
Took mine of earlier, so much better with a clear windscreen
I've been keeping my eye out the last two days, and as of yet, not seen a single car without one
