Former EU Energy Commissioner and upcoming Digital Commissioner Günther Oettinger has caused criticism after stating that the celebrities involved in the nude photo leaks were stupid for taking the pictures in the first place, also stating that nothing will ever be 100 percent secure especially where people are involved. He has been criticised for the statement, many claiming he is not suitable for the job.

I don't know anything about the guy I just found what he said to be interesting and actually the truth. I'm not sure about the apple icloud but a lot of hacks tend actually to be social engineering where people have basically used techniques to trick people into handing over details, access etc.

Companies can do a lot more to protect accounts but until users start actually doing the same these kind of problems will always exist. It's not like there's not warnings either - there's always warnings about people being tricked to hand over stuff and how things are never 100 percent safe, yet it's like people expect all the work to be done by the companies

He's right. Any system has vulnerabilities, and if you want to take nudes you're better putting them in a bank security system than flippin iCloud. That is if you want to keep them private...

That statement makes him completely suitable for the job. If you take nude photos you shouldn't put them online - securely or not. No system is 100% secure. Those criticising him are either living in denial or know very little of the tech industry and troubles it faces that will never fully go away. Why these celebs put them on iCloud is beyond me :/

I'm glad its not me then just was surprised about people acting like he was talking nonsense. We need someone honest like him to make the world realise the dangerous instead of hoping there's a fix for everything. Someone who'll make someone realise what they do for example, what they put online, might come back to bite them,

He's right.

Basic common sense, unusually from the EU.

He's some what right, people need to be more careful but the photos were already deleted from the device if I remember rightly so I don't think each person know they were being stored anywhere else. Although, it's the people who hate the NSA for illegally spying on them but love the fact that the nudes got leaked and insult the people for taking the pictures.

Glad someone with sense is now in the position.
