I'm sure by the time we have kids there's be so many more improvements on the 'mobile phone' as we see it today

But how do you feel about your kid having a mobile phone?

Would you give them it in general, would you allow them it for only emergencies?

Would you be afraid of any possible side effects (addiction to games, etc)?

Would give mobile phone just for calling if they were going somewhere far or overnight, would let them buy their own phone when theyre older and prove they are responsible and work for one.

i'd probably get them one of those crappy ones that are called like firefly or something (i might be way off), but you're only really able to make calls and receive them and that's all they'd need really. i'd make them save up for their own phone through pocket money and stuff.

I didn't have a proper phone that I used until I was around 14, but that's not to say I wouldn't allow my child to have one. I used to have them just to play games on, I didn't even call or text people. It would depend what my child would use it for, although I agree that having one for emergencies would be good.

I would let them have one when they start going out on their own with friends or whatever. It wouldn't be anything too fancy, but something that would do the job.

I'll probably gauge it from what their friends have. Deffo for entering secondary school. I know a lot of kids have them younger, as well as tablets etc

I'd probs get annoyed if they did what I do to my mum with my phone, im either always listening to music or messaging someone

I got my first phone in year 7 only to text my mum saying if the bus didn't come so I guess I'd give my kid their phone around then but not like an iphone cos I still haven't got one

If our society is like it is right now, people saying they will not get their kids a mobile phone until they are 13 or something are being ridiculous.

I would probably let them have one when they start high school. I don't think they would technically need one while in primary school. Wouldn't know the answer for sure until I had kids and they started buggering me to buy them one! :P

Would leave it until they were in secondary school like my mum did for me and it would be a basic phone just for calling and texting.

I'd consider a mid-range phone at the time when they hit the age where they're more independent. Phones can be useful in more ways than calling/texting nowadays it seems silly to give them a phone which is limited to that, especially with the rise of messaging apps which are far better to use than SMS.
