I tried the original and could never get into it. Will probably only ever try this if it comes in a Humble Bundle with lots of other games I want.

Are you sure? I know the original was as that's how I played it and I didn't really get what I was doing so I never played it again. I should probably give it one more go before writing it off entirely.
