Alright guys
I need some help with my dissertation, I need as much people as possible to help!!
You don't have to be a student, just aged 16+
Please post here if you are willing to take part.

What I am looking at is internet usage and symptoms of depression
I need you to think about your psychological state before and since using the internet. I know that might be a bit difficult but try as best as you can.
I have 23 questions in all but I don't need them back until around 20th January at the latest!

I made the thread here in case anyone wants to share their thoughts? Do you think your levels of internet use has had an impact on your mood, especially depression? any other mental health issues?

I'll get +rep to you all once the Christmas thread is over and done with :)

THANKS

i'd like to take part

i would definitely call my internet usage an addiction. if i try to quit i do experience withdrawal symptoms and i know it's bad but, as with most addictions, i don't really know how to stop. like i know literally how to stop (turn the damn computer off, duh) but i don't know how to keep at it like

seems to have the most adverse effects at each end of the spectrum (from forms of empowerment-> flat out cause of depression) for those that I know that use social sites an unhealthy amount. wouldnt say casual use has much effect and less so for those that only use the internet for information purposes n not actual socialisation. have you considered the informational side too? like, as the internet grows it becomes an easily accessible database of symptoms for self diagnosis of a vast array of new illnesses meaning people search for a label for their state of mind and everyone becomes hypochondriacs, faking some symptoms to fit into a specific category and as a result end up actually developing real ones. definitely think increased exposure to knowledge of an illness can increase levels of easily replicated aspects of mood and personality disorders specifically.

good luck with it!

anything for you Jen xx

I'd definitely say I had a internet addiction and it's been hard to try and wean myself off it but lately I'm getting better and this has been good for my relationship with my family.

I think Internet and sites like the for me are just a hobby and something I enjoy spending my time doing. I've never been friendless or had a reason to escape even when I played habbo a lot more than I do, it was just something I enioyed although know I'm 20 it's like a dirty little secret as no one really knows I come on this lol
